Warning: SPOILERS ahead for the SEAL Team series finale!SEAL Team Showrunner Spencer Hudnut explained how the series would have continued without lead actor David Boreantz after Season 7 if the show had continued. SEAL Team In the series finale, Jason (Boreanz) remained on Bravo Team and was finally able to forgive himself for the number of people he had to kill over the years of his missions. While the show ends with his overseas missions continuing into a future that viewers won’t see, Boreanz actually planned to leave the show in Season 7 if it weren’t for the final stretch of episodes.
Talking to ColliderHudnut opened he never knew Boreants was planning to leave SEAL Team after season 7and also revealed that he had five weeks to plan the series finale when it was revealed that the show had been cancelled. However, the showrunner revealed that if Boreanz were to leave, the newly introduced Drew (Beau Knapp) and other, younger Bravo members would take the place of the main characters. See what Hudnut had to say below:
The short answer is that he and I never had that conversation. In November I found out that this would be the last season. I understand why he probably came to this decision on his own. But the truth is that I started filming season seven in January 2023. Writers appeared in February and March. Leading up to the strike, we had the entire season on hiatus and probably had about seven scripts in the works. We came back in early October, we had nine scripts ready, and I started tinkering with the season finale. And then, when I was told in early November that the series had ended, there were five weeks left before production began. In five weeks I lost all the writers, and we were already forced to go to Columbia. So I really only had about three acts of the finale to land the plane.
Of course, I knew that the BRAVO team had been around for a long time. In season seven, it’s unlikely that everyone will continue to move forward, so the main characters are already on the road, trying to find a way out of the convention. My goal was to have more seasons. That’s why we introduced the character Drew. I’ve gotten a lot of messages on social media about, “Why would you introduce a character if you only have 10 episodes left?” Drew was going to be the glue, like Omar, in case the torch had to be passed on to the next generation of the BRAVO team, to really develop these guys as the season went on to the point where people would actually be interested in them. guys, in case they take a more prominent role. Like I never wanted to do SEAL Team episode without David, part of the job is to keep the show going. I thought this was the challenge we would face, but it is not.
What Hudnut’s Post-Boreans Plans Would Mean for SEAL Team
The series would illuminate the next generation
No more episodes SEAL Team left, the show settled on a finale that brings Jason full circle, leaving him in Bravo’s leadership position as their global operations continue. However, Hudnut’s plans show that this was not always the case.with the leader and perhaps other senior members of the team gradually fading into the background as a new generation of soldiers takes over. This approach would allow the series to continue well beyond the seventh season, demonstrating that the team will always have people carrying out important missions.
Although SEAL Team Season 7 didn’t have the opportunity to explore this concept thoroughly, the ending was still a fitting conclusion to Jason’s story, which also allowed the other characters to shine.. This includes Ray (Neil Brown Jr.) becoming the head of the military fighter Heat, and Sonny (AJ Buckley) and Davis (Tony Trucks) getting a happy ending. While ideas that would have worked if Boreantz had left never came to fruition, the series still managed to offer a farewell look at many of the characters that had helped define it over the years.
Our look at how SEAL Team would operate without the Borean
It would be interesting to see the show develop
However, despite the fitting ending, it would be interesting to see how SEAL Team would develop after the departure of its leader. This would bring some of its younger members to the forefront, offering them further development as some of them, like Drew, began to take on more leadership positions within the team. This evolution could be an intriguing direction for the series, making the series finale bittersweet knowing what could have been.
