How many fights did each Kaiju win in the Godzilla movies

70 years of Godzilla the films create a truly titanic number of kaiju that appear throughout the franchise. Some of these monsters are friends of humanity, some are enemies, and some come and go, but the most important thing is that they all fight. The Kaiju battles are some of the most spectacular parts of these films, and that's true whether you're a fan of the modern CGI-based Monsterverse films or the classic tokusatsu films of the Showa and Heisei eras (especially with their sillier Godzilla stories).

Sure, Godzilla has the best fighting record of any kaiju, but many other monsters have had impressive victories over the years. On the other hand, there are some perennial losers: the floppy-eared Baragon, the overgrown shrimp Ebirah, the insect Megalon, Godzilla: Final Wars' menacing Monster X, and the plant-kaiju hybrid Biollante failed to score even a single victory on screen. While we wait for more news about Studio Toho's next Godzilla film, we can look back and see how each kaiju's win count tallies.

1

Godzilla

42 wins (plus 6 Monsterverse wins)

Big G himself, of course, has the best winning record, and he should, considering most of the films have his name in the title. Although some foes have gotten the best of Godzilla from time to time (namely King Kong, Mothra, and Ghidorah), Godzilla is usually the one who delivers the final bloweven against the fiercest opponents.

Although he doesn't always win, Godzilla has an astonishing 75% win rate in his appearances in Japanese films. He has also emerged victorious much more frequently in the Monsterverse films, with six victories and only one defeat in eight kaiju battles.

MechaGodzilla

7 wins (+ 1 Monsterverse win)

The mirror game's mechanical menace has had a solid winning record over the years, especially in its first appearance in 1974. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzillawhere managed to break Angurius' jaw, defeat Godzilla and knock out King Caesar. The direct sequel to this film, Mechagodzilla Terrorsaw the mecha monster defeated, although it first teamed up with Titanosaurus to give Godzilla a good beating.

Mechagodzilla did not return until the 1993 Heisei era Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, this time as a machine built by the Japanese defense forces. The "good" Mechagodzilla won his first match against Big G and also took down Rodan, but this resulted in an energy blast that recharged Godzilla and brought him to his feet for an explosive knockout.

Mothra

6 wins (+1 Monsterverse)

One of Godzilla's oldest opponents, Mothra has fought against and alongside the King of the Monsters many times over the years. She helped him defeat Ghidorah in the original Ghidorah, the three-headed monsterbut also fought alongside Ghidorah against Godzilla in 2001 Giant monsters all-out attack. Most of the time, though, Mothra's contribution to fights is to sacrifice herself, as she did in both Godzilla: Final Wars and Godzilla: King of the Monsters to take down an opposing kaiju and give Godzilla the opening (and sometimes the power) he needs to finish the fight.

Ghidorah

2 wins (+ 2 Monsterverse wins)

For a kaiju presented as an intergalactic threat, Ghidorah has had surprisingly few successful fights in all of his incarnations. In the original Ghidorah, the three-headed monsterhe was initially defeated by Mothra's larval form, and although he survived the film's final fight to fly away, it wasn't his finest victory. Its reappearance in Astro-Monster Invasion saw him repeatedly lose to Godzilla and Rodan fighting together, and when he showed up to help Godzilla vs. Gigan he lost again.

Even his greatest form, King Ghidorah, lost to Godzilla in Godzilla vs King Ghidorahand his cybernetically enhanced Mecha-King Ghidorah form in the film's final fight only managed a draw. His form Kaiser Ghidorah, the secret final enemy of Godzilla: Final Warsalso failed to claim victory.

In the Monsterverse films, Ghidorah was more effectiveand knocked out Godzilla almost immediately after being awakened by Alan Jonah's eco-terrorists in Godzilla, King of the Monsters. The subsequent underwater duel was interrupted by the detonation of the Oxygen Destroyer, although Godzilla had the upper hand until the end. In the film's final fight, Ghidorah managed to destroy Mothra, but this only allowed his energy to infuse Godzilla with enough power that he could tear Ghidorah apart.

King Kong

1 win (+ 2 Monsterverse wins)

When King Kong and Godzilla first faced each other in 1962 King Kong vs Godzillakaiju films were still a new thing, and the inclusion of the United States' only contender meant that the nascent Godzilla fandom had high hopes for the King of the Monsters' performance. Unfortunately, the film is effectively a wash; Godzilla wins the film's first fight, but the final rematch is a technicality for Kong, who faces Godzilla from an ocean cliff and is the only one seen swimming away.

The lizard and the monkey Somehow they didn't get tangled up again until the Monsterverse movies brought them back together. 2021 Godzilla vs. Kong saw Big G defeat Kong to the brink of death, but the intervention of Mechagodzilla, possessed by the lingering spirit of Ghidorah, forced the enemies to stay together. This time, it was Godzilla who provided assistance, infusing his atomic breath into Kong's mighty ax so that Kong could decapitate the corrupted machine. The sequence, Godzilla vs. Kong: The Final Empiresaw the duo team up again to fight the Scar King, another simian kaiju that Kong literally destroyed.

Rodan

2 wins

Like Mothra, Rodan is one of Godzilla's first peersand a kaiju who got his own film to star in before being relegated to B-list status in Godzilla's rogues' gallery. He first appeared in Ghidorah, the three-headed monsterwhere he fought Godzilla to a draw before being convinced by Mothra to help defeat Ghidorah.

Rodan also helped Godzilla defeat Ghidorah twice in Astro-Monster Invasionand then didn't appear again until 199x Godzilla vs. Mechagodzillawhere Rodan was first eliminated by Godzilla, then transformed into Fire Rodan and lost to Mechagodzilla. He also attempted to defeat Godzilla along with Angurius and King Caesar in Godzilla: Final Warsbut failed.

The Monsterverse incarnation of Rodan has never won a fightand appeared in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. He tangled with Ghidorah in the storm and was thrown into the ocean; recognizing Ghidorah as the strongest Titan, he then allied himself with the three-headed monstrosity against Godzilla and Mothra, but even an injured Mothra proved stronger, and she trapped him in a ruined building for the remainder of the fight.

SpaceGodzilla

2 wins

One of Godzilla's most vile foes, SpaceGodzilla may have been created when some of Godzilla's cells - transported into space by Mothra or the disintegrated components of the plant-kaiju hybrid Biollante - were swallowed by a black hole and transformed into a strange and crystalline entity. This distorted clone of Godzilla appeared in 1994 Godzilla x SpaceGodzillafirst defeating the United Nations defense mecha MOGUERA in Earth's orbit, then landing on Birth Island, where he overpowered Godzilla, trapped Little Godzilla in a crystal, and then flew off to feed on the power of Fukuoka Tower.

The MOGUERA pilots managed to fix it and take the fight back to SpaceGodzilla in Fukuoka, but the beast was able to defend itself until Godzilla arrived. Together, they were able to weaken SpaceGodzilla enough that Godzilla was able to finish him off with his powerful red spiral ray.

King Caesar

1 victory

With a design that evokes the ancient guardian lions of Okinawa mythology, King Caesar's first appearance was the original Godzilla vs. Mechagodzillawhere it was the initial target of the machine servant of the fearsome inhabitants of Black Hole Planet 3. Mechagodzilla defeated King Caesar in their initial battlebut Godzilla's appearance leveled the playing field, and eventually the duo managed to defeat the horrible machine.

King Caesar returned in Godzilla: Final Warswhere he was one of the many kaiju used by the Xiliens to subjugate humanity. After causing destruction in Okinawa, he teamed up with Rodan and Angurius to defeat Godzilla, but the trio together was no match for the King of Monsters.

Hedora

1 victory

This strange amorphous alien from the Dark Gas Nebula arrived on Earth in 1971 Godzilla vs. Hedorahfeasting on the copious pollution produced by human industry to become more powerful. Godzilla and Hedorah clashed repeatedly as the alien creature continued to find sources of pollution to feed on, eventually growing into a huge, vaguely humanoid pile of sludge. The two kaiju clashed near Mt. Fuji, and the adult Hedorah was able to beat Godzilla unconscious.

Unfortunately for the mud monster, human ingenuity won out, as an electrical trap was set to stun the creature. The trap initially failed when a fuse blew, but it distracted Hedorah long enough for Godzilla to wake up and recharge the trap. dehydrating Hedorah and allowing Godzilla to destroy him.

1 victory

Anguirus was Godzilla's first non-human enemyappearing in 1955 Godzilla strikes again. The two kaiju first faced each other on Iwato Island, throwing themselves into the sea with no clear winner. The rematch in Osaka saw a clear victory for Godzilla, who first ripped out Anguirus's throat with his teeth and then blasted him with atomic fire. He also helped Godzilla in the tag team fight in Godzilla vs. Giganshortening the odds when Ghidorah showed up to help Gigan. Jet Jaguar

1 victory

Jet Jaguar was a human-sized robot created by scientist Goro Ibuki who was stolen by evil Seatopians in 1973 Godzilla vs. Megalonwho used it to guide the insectoid kaiju Megalon to Tokyo. Goro was able to wrest control of his creation from the Seatopians and used Jet Jaguar to first summon Godzilla for help and then attempt to hold off Megalon until the Big G could arrive.

Jet Jaguar used his size-changing ability to grow to kaiju size and had the upper hand against Megalon until the Seatopians summoned Gigan for backup. The duo had Jet Jaguar on the ropes until Godzilla arrived and provided the leverage needed to take Megalon back to the ocean and Gigan back to the depths of space.

Although Jet Jaguar has not appeared in a Godzilla film since Godzilla vs. Megalon, he had a central role in the 2021 Netflix anime Godzilla Singular Point. This version is significantly less humanoid and is initially a piloted mecha rather than an independent robot.

Destoroyah

1 victory

The cruel Destoroyah was born from the explosion that killed Godzilla in the original film; the Oxygen Destroyer not only killed that Godzilla, but also mutated some of the microscopic crustaceans in Tokyo Baywhich lay dormant for years until disturbed by construction. The swarm of small crabs transformed into various forms, fighting first against Tokyo's defenses, then against Godzilla Junior, who had been psychically attracted. Destoroyah's aggregate form nearly killed the young kaiju, who managed to retaliate with a point-blank atomic blast and seemingly destroyed him.

Godzilla himself soon arrived to care for his son, albeit ill from a potential radioactive meltdown. Suddenly, a reformed Destoroyah burst from the rubble, knocking Godzilla down and then happily killing Godzilla Junior. Filled with rage, Godzilla used all of his energy to kill the sadistic beast and then succumbed to collapse. Fortunately, the Super X-3 aerial mecha was able to help contain the radiation, which was then absorbed by Godzilla Junior's body, regenerating him and reviving him as a new adult Godzilla.

Together, father and son set Kumonga on fire with their atomic breath. A Kumonga also appeared in Destroy all monsters to help drive out Ghidorah.
