Sauron spent The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power in the second season of Eregion, but in the books his time was not quite the same. Rings of Power adapts J. R. R. Tolkien's Second Age stories as told in Lord of the Rings' applications and are discussed in detail in The Silmarillion. Sauron arrived in Eregion in 1200 of the Second Age, beginning to befriend the Elves and pass on his knowledge of forging, and did not begin forging the Rings of Power until 1500. In "Appendix B" Lord of the RingsTolkien outlined the chronology of the events of the Second and Third Ages, including these dates. Sauron lived in Eregion for 300 years before he began to forge rings with Celebrimbor. He had all this time to introduce himself, earn trust, and climb the social ladder.

This makes sense considering that Celebrimbor was the Lord of Eregion and Annatar was an unknown outsider. Moreover, Annatar had already tried to make friends with the elves of Lindon, but it did not work. Sauron tried to win the favor of Lindon's leader, Gil-galad, as this would make it easier for him to dominate the world. Gil-galad's suspicions about Annatar may have reached Celebrimbor.making it harder for Annatar to get into Celebrimbor's good books. However, 300 years of training in ring forging illustrates what a great achievement it was.

Rings of Power The second season significantly compressed the timeline of Tolkien's Second Age, scrapping the 300 years that Annatar spent in Eregion before starting to forge. Galadriel described Halbrand as the perfect form of Sauron in the second season, and Halbrand was in Eregion in the first season. Rings of Power gave Sauron some time to befriend Celebrimbor and his elves until Annatar arrived. Annatar is apparently the second great form of Sauron in the series. In the first season, Halbrand spent weeks or months in Eregion.
Halbrand returned to Eregion after earning Adar's trust and had to wait for what seemed like days for Celebrimbor to approve his entry.
The events of the second season began almost at the same time as the events of the first season ended, without a significant period of time between them. Sauron was walking into Mordor at the end of the first season and saw Mount Doom, which seemed to be not too far from Adar's camp. He arrived at the beginning of the second season, having given up. Halbrand returned to Eregion, having earned Adar's trust. and he had to wait for what seemed like days for Celebrimbor to approve his application. They immediately began to forge, and it did not take the canonical 100 years.

Compressing the timeline in Rings of Power made sense
Rings of Power In the second season, Tolkien's timeline was compressed to create dramatic pacing. Depicting 300 years of elven life in Eregion as Annatar slowly befriends Celebrimbor sounds like a pretty fantastic concept for a TV show, and perhaps it should have been. Rings of Power concept from the very beginning. However, fitting it into other storylines wouldn't work. Moreover, the series contains many other Tolkien storylines. Slowing down this storyline by a few hundred years wouldn't make sense.considering the rest.

Rings of Power I had to convincingly portray the power play between Annatar and Celebrimbor.requiring detailed dialogue scenes rather than sudden time jumps of hundreds of years. Meanwhile, Annatar's storyline Rings of Power was meant to be consistent with both the Adar series material and the Númenor material, with both arcs dealing with the rise of Sauron. Gandalf and Nori's arc is similar, although to a lesser extent. This had less to do with the rise of Sauron in Season 2 and didn't tie into any canonical timeline to consider, as Gandalf wasn't supposed to arrive in Middle-earth until the Third Age.
Sauron may have been in Eregion for hundreds of years in lore, but in the series he spent his time in Eregion well. As the wounded Halbrand said, Sauron successfully planted the seeds of his genius in the mind of Celebrimbor.which led Celebrimbor to accept his persistent offer of a meeting in the second season. Annatar's deception was not detailed in The Silmarillion but in the series, Halbrand evolved into Annatar, displaying fearsome power that precipitated Celebrimbor's loyalty. This supported The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Annatar's extremely compressed timeline.
