Home creator David Shore has finally given a definitive answer to the big question of the Foreman finale, 12 years after the series finale aired. HomeThe best episodes are spread throughout its eight seasons, with the series finale, titled “Everybody Dies,” being particularly memorable. The final episode ends with House (Hugh Laurie) and Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) riding together after the protagonist fakes his own death. However, a final scene in a montage sequence shows Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps) finding the main character’s hospital ID, apparently his way of saying he is still alive.
Talking to Weekly entertainmentShore confirmed that HomeForeman’s last scene was intended to tell the Dean of Medicine that his former boss was still alive. He also confirmed what the small smile on his face in the final scene meant, definitively closing the book on his reaction 12 years after the episode aired. Check out what Shore had to say below:
I will say this, that was my intended message with this. Yes, that little smile on his face was, “Holy shit, that’s the guy who did it.”
What Shore’s Confirmation of Foreman’s Reaction Says About House’s Series Finale
Everything has been resolved clearly now
Although House’s harsh characterization didn’t sit well with everyone he interacted with, he still had the respect and admiration of those he worked with. This includes Foreman, who became a close friend because of his equally introverted yet more extroverted personality than his superior. In season 4, he briefly took the main character’s place on the team while he was not aroundproving to be a trusted ally and friend to the cynical diagnostician. The trust between them explains why House specifically wanted him to know he was still alive.
The end of Home emphasized this proximity by having the titular doctor left his ID under an unstable table leg in his office, something Foreman previously complained he should fix. The sly smile also indicates that he won’t tell anyone about the main characters’ fates, the series offering a definitive ending that’s almost hopeful for Laurie’s character. This is largely due to your trusted ally, who will apparently carry the secret of your destiny forever without telling anyone.
Our Take on Foreman’s True Fate Knowing House
It’s the perfect way to end the relationship
Given how close they’ve been throughout the show, it makes sense for the diagnostician to leave Foreman a clue about his true fate. This gives Home a fitting bittersweet ending, as although they never see each other again, the pair now know the doctor’s secret fate, emphasizing just how unbreakable the bond they share is. With the series ending just minutes after his discovery, it seems the doctor will keep this secret, hiding the truth from everyone around him.
