This article contains spoilers for High potential season 1, episode 7, “One Of Us.”A possible romance between Morgan and Karadec is addressed by High potential showrunner Todd Harthan. In the latest episode of the ABC crime drama, based on the French series IPH and created by Drew Goddard, Kaitlin Olson’s Morgan Gillory helps safely diffuse a hostage situation by using her intellectual prowess to solve another difficult case. Although she spends most of the episode away from Detective Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), the partners are very supportive of each other and viewers are wondering if this could be romantic.
In comments to TV lineHarthan previewed the mid-season premiere of High potential. The crime drama returns to ABC with new episodes on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 9:00 PM ET. The showrunner mentions that the return episode will feature a big moment for Morgan and Karadec, but doesn’t say whether it will be romantic:
There’s a scene in the midseason premiere that really speaks to what these two people mean to each other and how we’re going to evolve this relationship going forward. That’s where the public will go, ‘I’m rooting for these two, whether it’s romantic interest or not. I just love them together.
Don’t expect anything big yet
The dynamic between Karadec and Morgan is clearly outlined from the beginning. She thinks he is cold, while he is frustrated with her unrefined approach to solving crimes and lack of regard for procedure. At the moment when High potential The fall finale arrives, with their hostage situation they have become friends, and Karadec does what he can to make sure Morgan’s daughter Ava (Amirah J) and Morgan are safe.
However, the High potential the episode does not focus on the pairing. Instead, it sparks more romantic sparks between Morgan and Tom (played by Maias MC actor JD Pardo). Although he is injured in the hostage situation and goes to the hospital, Tom survives. Future episodes could feature more cases that bring Morgan and Karadec together, but that doesn’t happen It looks like a romantic resolution is in the immediate future.
Our opinion on a Morgan and Karadec romance
The program is being interpreted intelligently
Despite all the expectations about a romance between them at the end of the series’ half-season, the episode does not have an important milestone for Karadec and Morgan’s relationship. It’s much more about the mother-daughter bond between Morgan and Ava, not to mention developing the next step between Morgan and Tom. While this may disappoint some shippers, it’s for good reason.

Harthan’s comments confirm that there is more in store for Olson and Sunjata’s characters, but High potential It’s smart to go slow. If Morgan is open to a serious romance, then it would be best to approach it in a way that allows for further development. Morgan may also be reluctant to start a romance, given the divorce and the missing ex-husband. This may be a question for the likely High potential 2nd season.
