Warning: SPOILERS ahead for episodes 1 and 2 of Landman!Landman star Mark Collie explains how Sheriff Walt Joeburg’s role in the series will grow after episode 1’s explosive opening scene. The TV show created by Taylor Sheridan begins with oil company crisis executive Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) present as a plane from his oil company stolen by an excavated cartel, lands on his private roads, engulfing a trailer in flames. Joeburg (Collie) arrives on the scene, explaining how the event means authorities will need to keep an eye on the company’s progress. This could cause problems for Tommy, who has ignored stolen equipment at the business before.
Talking to Screen speechCollie explained how her Sheriff Joeburg is close to Tommy, which means he’s willing to help him despite everything. Landmanexplosive start. However, the actor teases how the problems pile up, becoming “more exciting and more dangerous” as the series continues. He also expressed interest in continuing the series through season two, indicating how big some key events will be. Check out what Collie had to say below:
Well, whenever something explodes, or someone finds a body, they call Walt. [Laughs] But ultimately the character is important to the family. Him and Tommy, obviously, you could probably tell they’re close. They’re closer than most businessmen and sheriff’s departments, you know, and Walt tries to be so accommodating and tries to cover Tommy’s ass when necessary. But the problem is that this will grow and become more exciting and more dangerous. I would love to tell you everything, but I would probably get fired. I want to do season 2, so I’ll leave it at that, stay tuned. [Laughs]
What Collie’s statement means to Sheriff Joeburg in Landman
More important events will require your intervention
The plane crash isn’t the only explosive event that happened in the first two episodes, as episode 1 ends with an explosion on an oil rig that results in the deaths of Tommy’s entire crewexcept for his son, Cooper (Jacob Lofland). Landman episode 2 ends with the protagonist realizing the legal problems he will now have in both incidents, despite having already confided in Joeburg about how often equipment disappears. It’s clear that he and the sheriff are on friendly terms, but with the two deadly incidents happening side by side, he’ll be under scrutiny he won’t be able to avoid.
Although it seems out of all the characters in LandmanJoeburg will be an important ally for Tommy, his job requires holding people accountable for possible criminal incidents. Since the crisis executive should be reporting stolen equipment all the time, The biggest legal ramifications of the event may not be something the sheriff can protect you from. This is made even more complicated by the tragic oil rig explosion, which puts him and others in the Texas oil industry, like Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), under a microscope.
Our Take on How Sheriff Joeburg Will Play Landman’s Future
Law enforcement is about to get even more involved
Although Joeburg is still an ally of Tommy’s despite the deadly incidents, he is putting himself at risk by covering for him around the stolen equipment and the damage that followed. Now that other legal entities will be after him for the oil rig explosion, this could limit the sheriff’s involvement, putting him in a situation where he will eventually have to take legal action against his friend. Since Landman With eight episodes still to go, there will likely be a lot of wild events happening, leading to increased tension between the two.
