Night Hunter was almost completely destroyed by critics after its debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Film Festival, which is how it ended up with a 14% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Kevin Maher from The Times (UK) wrote in his 1-star review: "It's defined by a constipated performance from Cavill and a debut script from film director David Raymond that's so laugh-inducing and derivative it feels like it came straight from Spike Jonze's satire Adaptation." Despite these negative comments, Night Hunter still has some redeeming qualities although critics were almost universally against it. Although Cavill has been in some dark films, he has never done a true serial killer thriller before Night Hunterwhich is something more like Silence of the Lambs and Se7en. Most would agree that Night Hunter is not a perfect film and some would say it is not a good film. Still, it's a nice change of pace for Cavill after years of predictable action roles and Superman appearances. Cavill hasn't been tested much outside of the action genre. Despite the poor reception, Night Hunter It can at least be appreciated for offering a new side of Cavill in his more repetitive filmography.
