Harry Vanderspeigle, by Alan Tudyk, is Resident ForeignerThe main character, and the series' eccentric alien, has many abilities that make him interesting as well as formidable. Tudyk led the Resident Foreigner cast since the show's inception in 2021, playing Harry in a variety of scenarios that gradually revealed the character's abilities. Although Harry is not Tudyk's only character in Resident Foreignerhe is the persona he has embodied most frequently throughout history.
Of course, Harry's species (which has never been properly named) is not the only alien race in the series who has interesting powers and abilities. For example, the tradition surrounding Resident ForeignerGray Aliens has also been developed quite significantly since the first episode of the series – especially in the second season. Resident ForeignerIn the story, it might be much easier to understand what he can do that other characters can't.
Harry's “molecular reconstruction” allows him to take the shape of other people
Tudyk's Resident Alien character is a shapeshifter
Harry's human form is not randomly generated. Instead, he altered his physical body to be identical to the human he killed when he arrived in Patience – the real Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle. Tudyk's character has reverted to his native Alien form a few timesbut not for long. He spends such a long time as a human that his psychology begins to change. Harry begins to develop human emotions and form bonds with other people – something his internal monologue often confirms as something unheard of for members of his race. Therefore, transformation is much more than just a superficial change.
Harry also took the form of others Resident Foreigner characters, but the process is not easy for Harry. For example, he briefly transforms into Sara Tomko's Asta Twelvetrees in Resident Foreigner Season 2 and even performs an entire mission while using Alex Borstein's Carlyn face. Both times, he uses Alien Ball technology to assist him in the change. Presumably, Changing in and out of your alien form and body that looks like Alan Tudyk takes a lot less effortand can be attributed to something similar to muscle memory.
Alan Tudyk's resident alien character is incredibly strong and durable
Harry is an effortlessly good fighter
Harry is rarely seen in hand-to-hand combatbut when he fights, it becomes clear how terrifying an opponent he is. There are a few different occasions where Tudyk's character is witnessed absorbing blows as if he were a massive brick wall. Plus, his fight scene with Mandell Maughn's Lisa Casper on the train in Resident Foreigner Season 2 Episode 7, 'Escape From New York,' proves how easy and well-coordinated he is in a fight.
If Harry's combat prowess wasn't enough, he also heals incredibly quickly. There were times when Asta had to step in and help with the healing, but once certain things are accounted for, Harry always returns to full health surprisingly quickly. Therefore, although he is rarely asked or required to act as a soldier, there are enough examples to prove that he is incredibly capable of doing so.
Harry Vanderspeigle can manipulate the memories of other resident alien characters
Harry's species has powerful psychic abilities
Arguably one of Harry's most dangerous abilities is his ability to remove and alter other people's memories. Resident Foreigner characters. Harry proves he can implant completely false memoriesalter memories to suit your needs or even remove an entire sequence of events from the mind of an unsuspecting individual. He doesn't even need their permission to do this, as all he has to do is place his hand near someone's head and a few moments later their memories are played out.
There are two especially prominent examples of Harry's use of this power. The first is to make Asta forget that she killed someone to protect Harry, as the guilt was eating her up inside. The other was when Harry was almost arrested for the murder of the man whose face Alan Tudyk's character wears. To avoid incarceration, Harry falsifies the memories of Sheriff Mike Thompson (Corey Reynolds) and Deputy Liv Baker (Elizabeth Baker) to make them forget the discovery and also to make them believe that the FBI had taken over the case.
Harry Vanderpeigle can breed with humans in Resident Alien
Bridget is a human/alien hybrid
Interspecies creation isn't unheard of in science fiction, but when aliens are so different from humans, it's perhaps a little less likely to be possible. However, Resident Foreigner proves that DNA from Harry's species is compatible with the human genome. This is proven by the existence of Bridget, a human/alien hybrid – whose real father is Goliath – a future version of Alan Tudyk's father. Bridget's mother, Violinda Darvell, is played by Maxim Roy.
Bridget's existence is a not-so-subtle nod to the fact that Harry and Asta have a child together in Resident Foreigner comics by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse.
Resident Foreigner doubles his alien/human genetic compatibility with the introduction of Grey/human hybrids. The difference here is that the Grays appear to add their DNA to fully human hosts, while Bridget was conceived naturally. Then, it is unclear whether only Harry's species and humans are genetically compatibleor if the world of Resident Foreigner allows for much wider matching of DNA. Either way, Bridget's existence is a not-so-subtle nod to the fact that Harry and Asta have a child together in the past. Resident Foreigner comics by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse.
Resident Alien's main character is deceptively intelligent
Harry compensates for his social downfalls with his innate intelligence
Harry grew up and lived on another planet before landing on Earthso his general behavior makes him seem very unusual by human standards and at times almost makes him seem very stupid. Appearances can be deceiving, however. Despite the fact that he doesn't always pick up on human social cues or understand certain conventions, he is still incredibly intelligent when it comes to scientific matters and cold, hard facts and figures. If it weren't for Harry's immense intellect, large parts of the story wouldn't have happened.
Coupled with Harry's limited access to Alien technology, his mind becomes one of the series' most potent weapons, along with what is arguably Earth's greatest asset. The human homeworld lacks anything that can approach the advanced technology of those among the stars, so even with the devices Harry can assemble, the fight is much fairer. Without him, Resident Foreigner it would have been over very quickly.
