Never let goThe digital release date has now been revealed. Directed by Alexandre Aja, Never let go Halle Berry stars as Momma, a mother living with her two children in a remote cabin in fear of a dangerous force she calls "The Evil One," which has destroyed much of the outside world. The survival horror/thriller hit theaters on September 27, earning mixed reviews from critics and underwhelming at the box office.
Lionsgate now reveals that Never let go will release on VOD on Friday, October 11. The film will be available on all major digital retailers, including Apple TV, Google Play, Amazon Prime Video and Fandango at Home, for the standard $24.99 to buy and $19.99 to rent for a 48-hour period. The VOD release apparently won't contain any special features.
Which Never Let Go's VOD release means for the movie
The survival horror was not a hit in theaters
Never let goReviews from critics have not been glowing, and the film currently has a low 57% score Rotten tomatoes. The audience score is even lower, at just 53%, suggesting that most moviegoers disliked the film.
This mixed reception was reflected in the box office performance of the film. Made on an estimated budget of $25 million, Never let go earned only $13 million worldwide, making it a fairly significant flop. It's clear that the film just didn't connect with audiences in theaters, and that's why its digital release comes just two weeks after its theatrical release. The film being available to watch at home could help expand its reach, but it almost certainly won't earn enough on home-viewing platforms to offset its theatrical losses.
Our take on Never Let Go's VOD release
Why the film may be better on home viewing platforms
When a film isn't taking off at the box office and interest is low, a quick VOD release can be a smart choice. Sometimes, poor theatrical performance is because a film just doesn't "Feel"Theatrical or because awareness is low, and some titles are just better suited for viewing at home.

It is possible that Never let go will be such a title, and the movie could end up being a viewership hit when it eventually comes to streaming in a few months. Often, a recognizable movie star and a straightforward premise is enough to get viewers to click on a film on streaming. As was the case with Netflix Bird Box (2018). Although VOD performance seems unlikely to turn the film into a financial hit, Never let go May still find its audience.
