GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive just received a major update three years after its release and it looks better than ever

After a disastrous launch in 2021, Rockstar has finally released a substantial update for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition and although the experience is still difficult, at least it feels better. The remastered version of PlayStation 2 classics was intended to wow fans with updated visuals that featured improved textures and revised lighting, but the implementation was so poor that most players longed for the original games’ presentation. Luckily for those wanting a rush of nostalgia, that’s now an option.

Put RockstarINTEL, GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition received a patch almost exactly three years after it was released and while it doesn’t completely fix the game, it adds a “Classic Lighting” mod that restores the sky to its original appearance. It may seem like a small change, but it represents a substantial improvement when the lighting effects in the remaster were so wonky; The reworked version was criticized for being overly dark and difficult to analyze. A few other fixes were also included in the mod, but Classic Lighting is the biggest improvement.

What else is new in GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition?

Some decent quality of life updates

As GTA Veterans like the old-school look of the Definitive Editionthey will also be able to enjoy some much-needed quality of life improvements. Perhaps the biggest is the ability to sprint while firing assault rifles, shotguns, and flamethrowers at Grand Auto Robbery III and Vice citya feature that was removed from the remaster. In general, several character models have been improved to look a little better, and the animations have also been revised to look more natural and less stilted.

Overall, the patch for GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition didn’t solve all the package problems, but At least it gave fans a way to play the games more like how they originally looked. What’s strange is that the “Classic Lighting” mode was originally released for the mobile version of the remaster in December 2023, so why it took so long to reach all other versions remains unknown. It may not be enough to save Definitive Editionreputation, but at least they look a little better.

GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition is still bad

Classic lighting is not enough to save you

After dedicating a good amount of time GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Editionthe implementation of Classical Lighting isn’t enough to bring me back for more. The game was an absolute disaster upon release; Not only was it functionally broken, but it also disrespected the legacy of the pioneers of the open-world genre. I’m glad that die-hard fans can make the games feel closer to how they remember them, but the fact that it took so long for such a patch is confusing.
