According to Olgruns lore, the mad god was split into seven different parts to prevent him from destroying all existence. Green Lantern: War Journal #12 culminates with John Stewart gained control of Olgrun’s ring, giving him command over all of Olgrun’s forces. However, the first aspect of Olgrun (the Fire of Olgrun) was bestowed upon Superman’s adopted son, Osul-Ra, in Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1. Also taking the form of a sword, the fire of Olgrun is a font of incredible power, thereby making Osul-Ra one of the most dangerous entities in the multiverse – guarded by Superman himself.

A clash between the two legacies of Olgrun would be devastating. John Stewart has already attained functional godhood as of Green Lantern #12 and is one of the most skilled Green Lanterns to exist. Superman’s powers have also been off the charts since his absorption of Genesis energy at the end of Warworld Sagaonce admitted to Lex Luthor that “Concepts like weight, distance, temperature, even spacetime have largely lost their meaning for me.A fight between John Stewart and Superman would mean a conflict of powers on a magnitude usually reserved for crisis-level events.

Superman vs. Green Lantern would be a fight of multiversal proportions

Olgrun's corrupted aspect attempts to possess John Stewart.

Two of Olgrun’s aspects have emerged in DC continuity, but crucially, if John Stewart is Olgrun’s chosen vessel, then Stewart either needs to collect the aspects or they need to come to him in order for Olgrun to be complete. This means that for Olgrun to be complete, John Stewart would need to demand the fire of Olgrun from Osul-Ra, which Superman would never allow. But as Olgun’s wreckage continues to reveal itself, the Mad God’s return feels slow yet inevitable—and with it, the final battle between Green Lantern And Superman.
