Grand Admiral Thrawn and other classic 'Heir to the Empire' characters brought to life in incredible vintage Star Wars three-pack collection

Grand Admiral Thrawn returns in the form of a 3.75 inch action figure as he and two of his closest allies join Hasbro Star Wars The Vintage Collection toy line in a three-pack celebrating a classic Legends novel. The main Star Wars The antagonist made his debut in Timothy Zahn's 1991 novel “Heir to the Empire,” when he returns to the known galaxy to unify a fractured Empire following the death of Emperor Palpatine. In 2016, Thrawn returned to canon as Star Wars Rebels antagonist played by Lars Mikkelsen, who reprized the role in live-action in 2023 Ahsoka.

As Star Wars'The “Gift The Galaxy” program continues to reveal new products, Hasbro he has revealed its latest addition to The Vintage Collection 3.75 action figure line. Inspired by Zahn's “Heir to the Empire” trilogy, the set includes three individually carded figures in the line's iconic retro-inspired packaging that includes Grand Admiral Thrawn, his Imperial comrade Captain Gilad Palleaon and the crazed Jedi Master clone J'oruus C' baoth rendered in the current highly articulated figure line style.

Each figure comes with accessories that complement each character, including Thrawn and Palleon's respective blasters, a Force-negating Ysalamiri lizard that can rest on the Grand Admiral's shoulders, and an on-and-off lightsaber and alternate Force lightning hand for C. 'baoth. Check out the full product description below:

More than 30 years later, “Heir to the Empire” is the key to Star Wars once again

Thrawn's tale of legend is the foundation for the future of Star Wars

Although it may no longer be a canonical tale for Star Wars'current continuity, it is not surprising that the beloved Star Wars the novel is still adapted for merchandise. The novel is not only credited with kickstarting both the Expanded Universe and began Zahn's ongoing involvement in the franchise, but has the unique honor of being credited with contributing to George Lucas' prequel trilogy, as the planet of Coruscant has its origins in the trilogy.

Furthermore, the impact of “Heir to the Empire” can still be felt in the canon beyond the simple introduction of Thrawn and his allies such as elements from the novels are found in the current canonical plot. The Mount Tantiss imperial installation in Wayland has become an important setting for recent seasons of The bad lot and the larger narrative of Palpatine's attempts to cheat death. Thrawn's live-action return is also based on the events of the “Heir to the Empire” novels, when the Grand Admiral resurfaced as a challenger to the nascent New Republic after siding with powerful Force users. Palleaon represents the Chiss on the Imperial Council of Shadows.

Our opinion on Star Wars: the new action figures from the Vintage collection

The three characters mark a new beginning in the line

Thrawn may be no stranger to The Vintage Collection, but the “Heir to the Empire” three-pack is still a highly desirable item among collectors. Although the figure heavily uses the Star Wars Rebels Laid out as a base, his more elaborate uniform complete with Ysalamiri and naval-inspired epaulettes is a near-perfect capture of his Legend appearance.

When combined with the new J'oruus C'baoth figure and the inclusion of Palleaon to round out the group of villains, the three-pack is a welcome addition to any Star Wars fan collection. Additionally, with an all-new packaging design dedicated to the romance, many may wonder if a new Mara Jade, Rukh, or Talon Karde could join Hasbro's long-running figure line in the near future.
