GOT Star’s Sci-Fi Thriller and King Arthur Shows Canceled (But Could Find Life Elsewhere)

The sci-fi thriller Beacon 23 and historical drama The Winter King Both were canceled at MGM+, though the two shows may still be rescued. Both shows premiere in the latter half of 2023, with The Winter King Positioning itself as a retelling of Arthurian legends. As for Beacon 23who was bothering Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey and Come home Stephen James, it is based on the novel of the same name by Hugh Howey. The latter follows two characters who have to learn to trust each other after they are seemingly trapped at the end of the known universe.

TVLine Confirmed that Beacon 23 And The Winter King Both were hosted by MGM+. In the case of Beacon 23The thriller’s run ended after two seasons and 16 episodes. The Winter KingCurrently, has already been canceled by co-producer ITV and will not be picked up by MGM +. Yet, according to the report, Both shows could potentially be shopped to other platforms.

MGM+ scripted programming is in flux

With the news that Beacon 23 Season 3 won’t happen, The list of returning programming on MGM+ has gotten smaller. Once titled Epix, and once the home of the Batman-related drama PennyworthEpix rebranded to MGM+ in early 2023. The platform is owned by Amazon MGM Studios, although it has kept its programming identity and branding and so far has not been folded into Amazon’s much larger Prime Video platform.

MGM+ has found some success with horror series of Breaking out before its season 3 premiere. A blend of genres, providing scares and the mystery of a strange and dangerous city, of Has earned the endorsement of legendary author Stephen King as it Prepares to return for new episodes on September 22. MGM+ also recently debuted the crime drama Hotel cocainewhich is awaiting renewal and was co-produced by Australian production company Stan.
