For a series featuring some of the greatest feats of strength anime has ever seen, some of the most heated discussions surrounding Dragon ball has to do with Goku’s questionable parenting skills. Fans aren’t wrong in deliberating the matter, as Goku has repeatedly proven himself to be completely unreliable as a father. Some fans claim he is the worst father in anime, while others believe his reputation is unjustified. Unfortunately for the latter, however, Goku admits his incompetence in Dragon Ball DaimaSeventh episode of , titled “Collar”.
The truth is that the Saiyan probably resides somewhere between ‘worst anime father’ and ‘misunderstood father’, but even so, he admits his own shortcomings when Panzy questions how he could raise a child. Goku has always been a flawed protagonist and, it turns out, being Earth’s savior doesn’t mean being a good father.
Goku has always been an unreliable father
Panzy’s admiration for Goku fluctuated throughout his time in Dragon Ball Daima. One moment she will be absolutely captivated by your fighting skills and the next moment completely irritated by your behavior. This seems to be a common theme for Goku, as a large portion of the fan base tends to feel similarly about his abilities as a father. Gohan was kidnapped in his first appearance in the series, while Goten was forced to wait several years before meeting his father, and only did so because Goku wanted to fight in a tournament.
Just like Panzy, however, fans are captivated when Dragon ballThe protagonist inevitably saves the day once again and will end up forgive not all, but most of your bad qualities. It certainly helps that Goku is an inherently kind character who would never purposely harm his loved ones and would often go out of his way to fight on their behalf. It turns out that a member of the fiercest warrior race in the universe has a different method of raising children.
Parenting is a little different in the strongest family on the planet
While it may be easy to criticize Goku’s unconventional parenting methods, it cannot be ignored that he was tasked with creating the strongest family on the planetwho are constantly called upon to protect the Earth from various terrible threats. This may not excuse what Goku himself describes as a lack of involvement in DaimaGohan’s last episode, but it offers some leeway in situations like Gohan’s fight with Cell.
While some fans may be unhappy with Goku’s latest comments about his own parenting skills, at least some may be satisfied with their own self-awarenessand see this as a step in the right direction, as the series’ protagonist becomes a grandfather in future arcs. Dragon Ball Daima looks ready for his first big showdown with the mysterious Tamigamis, and fans should expect some high-intensity action in the coming episodes. However, there may not be much quality in the education of children.
Dragon Ball DAIMA is the fifth series overall in the action-adventure anime franchise. It features most of the classic cast members as aged versions of themselves, including Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma. The series was announced at NYCC 2023, with creator Akira Toriyama returning to manage DAIMA.
