Glen Powell’s 2024 Legacy Sequel With 91% RT Audience Score Becomes a Streaming Hit

Glen Powell
quickly became one of the most sought-after movie stars in Hollywood. Although he has been an active actor for many years, a select few projects have recently taken him to a new level of stardom. After minor appearances in The Dark Knight Rises (2012), The Expendables 3 (2014), and Hidden figures (2016), Powell was a clear highlight of the acclaimed 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick as Hangman, and that paved the way for some exciting lead roles.

2023 was a big year for Powell. He notably appeared alongside Sydney Sweeney in Anyone but youan R-rated romantic comedy that ended up being a surprise box office hit. After that he appeared in AssassinRichard Linklater’s crowd-pleasing Netflix romantic comedy. He now has several projects lined up on the horizon, including Edgar Wright The running man remake, and these titles only became more exciting after Powell lit up the screen earlier this year with a well-received legacy sequel.

Twisters becomes a streaming success

The Sequel to Glen Powell’s Legacy Reached Audiences

Twisted became a streaming hit following its theatrical release earlier this year. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the 2024 disaster film serves as a legacy sequel to 1996 Twisted starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. The film follows retired tornado hunter Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones) as she teams up with charismatic tornado influencer Tyler (Powell) to stop tornado activity in Oklahoma, and the result proved popular with audiences. However Twisted‘reviews were generally positive from critics, earning a respectable 75% on Rotten tomatoesthe film received 91% of the audience.

New data from Reelgood now reveals that Twisted is ranked as the fifth most popular title streaming in the US for the week of November 14-20. The film, which is streaming on Peacock, outperforms titles like Cross (2024–), Landman (2024–), and Emilia Pérez (2024), although it falls short of The Day of the Jackal (2024–), My old ass (2024), Deadpool and Wolverine (2024) and, firstly, yellow stone (2019–). When only watching films from the same period, Twisted comes third. Check out Reelgood’s movie and TV streaming chart below:

What Twisters’ streaming success means for the film

Will Twisters have a sequel?

However Twisted may have a glowing audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it cannot be described as a huge box office success. Made on an estimated budget of US$155 million, the film grossed US$371 million worldwide.proving very popular domestically, but earning a light US$103 million in overseas territories. At that budget level, it was probably aiming for a break-even point between $310 million and $387.5 million, meaning it was a modest success at best.

Even though the film is once again connecting with audiences on streaming and Twisted the ending leaves the door open for more adventures, these box office results could prevent a sequel from being made. If another film happens, it will likely have a lower budget, but that could be a challenge given the heavy nature of the premise. Even if another film doesn’t happen, audiences are evidently enjoying revisiting Twisted now that it’s streaming.
