Gigantamax Blastoise Weaknesses and Counters

Gigantamax Blastoise is doing its Pokemon GO debuts in Max Raid Battles, meaning you can fight and potentially capture this powerful creature to add to your collection. Gigantamax Pokémon are expected to be the most challenging opponents in the game, so it’s important that you come prepared with a team of strong counters that can attack Blastoise’s weaknesses.

Arriving alongside Gigantamax Charizard and Gigantamax Venusaur as part of the GO Bigger event, Gigantamax Blastoise will appear in six-star Max Raid Battles in Power Spots from October 26-27, 2024. You’ll probably need to team up with at least 10 other Trainers to have a chance of winning, although the maximum number of participants is 40, so the more Trainers you can join, the better.

Gigantamax Blastoise Weaknesses and Resistances

There are two vulnerabilities you need to target

Gigantamax Blastoise attacking a beach in Pokémon GO

Gigantamax Blastoise is a Water-type Pokémon, which means Its only weaknesses are Electric and Grass-type attacks.. Given the limited number of Dynamax-compatible Pokémon available in Pokemon GO Right now, your best option is to focus on Grass-type Pokémon with Grass-type moves.

On the other hand, Gigantamax Blastoise is resistant to Fire, Ice, Steel, and Water-type attacks. Avoid using these types of moves whenever possible, as they won’t do much damage. This rules out Blastoise and Charizard – only run them on your team if they’re the only Dynamax-compatible Pokémon you have.

Best counters for Gigantamax Blastoise

Grass-type Dynamax Pokémon are the best

Rillaboom and Venusaur on the Pokémon GO map

The best counters for Gigantamax Blastoise are Dynamax Venusaur and Dynamax Rillaboomas these are the strongest Dynamax-capable Pokémon, with a Quick Attack and a Charged Attack that can hit Blastoise’s weak points.

For Dynamax Venusaur, you will want to run Vine Whip and Frantic Plant. For Dynamax Rillaboom, you’ll want to run Razor Leaf and Grass Knot. All of these moves will benefit from the STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus), which grants some extra damage, but most importantly, they will give both Pokémon a Grass-type Max Move to use when they are Dynamaxed in battle, which is key. for surpassing Gigantamax Blastoise.

My next recommendation to take into battle against Gigantamax Blastoise would be Dynamax Greed. Although it is not a Grass-type Pokémon, it has access to a full Grass-type moveset: Bullet Seed and Trailblaze. This allows it to deal super-effective damage and unleash a Grass-type Max Move when Dynamaxed, which gives it an advantage over some of the other Dynamax-compatible Pokémon in the game.

If you don’t have any of these Pokémon in your collection, choose the three most powerful Dynamax-capable Pokémon you have and hope for the best! A good choice would be something like Dynamax Gengar or Dynamax Metagross. Although these Pokémon cannot target any of Gigantamax Blastoise’s weaknesses in Pokemon GOthey are very strong overall, which will hopefully be enough to help you in battle.
