Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Ghosts, season 4, episode 3, “Halloween IV: The Witch”
Although the CBS ghosts Ghosts have always had some powers, season 4 improved the sitcom’s setup, upping the ante on those abilities. Ghosts Season 4’s cast of characters includes Mary Holland’s Patience the Puritan, who kidnapped Isaac after he left Nigel at the altar in the Season 3 finale. Ghosts Season 4’s new character Patience seemed destined to become a regular at Woostone Manor when Isaac and the ghosts teamed up to drag her out of “The dirt” in the premiere, but she finally returned there just a few episodes later.
That wasn’t a bad thing, as Patience was a disturbing addition to the show’s gallery of ghosts. When Sam’s father, Frank, visited Ghosts Season 4, Patience made the walls of the mansion bleed human blood, as she was very angry about him sleeping in the same bed as his girlfriend. This alone didn’t banish Patience, but it was a wild power compared to what most ghosts can achieve. Patience exaggerated her abilities in Season 4 Episode 3, “Halloween IV: The Witch,” but ultimately decided to return underground when Isaac publicly shamed her for watching TV.
How the Ghosts’ Powers Have Changed Since Season 1
Ghosts gradually improved the powers of its heroes
Although Holland’s character returned to “The dirt”To avoid the sins of the mansion, The role of patience in Ghosts season 4 proves how much more impressive the show’s ghost powers have become. The transformation of Sam’s statue epitomized this phenomenon, as viewers had no idea if Patience was telling the truth when she insinuated that she had turned Sam to stone. Even the ghosts themselves don’t know what powers the ghosts could potentially have until they’re revealed, so the idea that something totally fantastical could happen (like Patience turning a human into a stone statue) seems reasonable.
Thanks to the powers of Patience, it is no longer clear what is or is not possible in Ghosts Season 4 and that’s a good thing. Ghost powers have existed since the first episode of the first season, but were initially more discreet. Alberta can hum softly, Trevor can move small items, and Isaac can create a bad smell. Season 3 revealed that Pete can leave the mansion grounds and go anywhere, while Season 4 revealed that Patience can make the walls bleed human blood, so it’s fair to say Ghosts is rapidly raising the stakes in terms of what constitutes a “Power.”
How Ghosts’ Power Creep Benefits the Show
CBS’ Ghosts Benefits From This Change
As if to underline this point, the ghosts and even Jay mocked the power of Aberta’s buzz, although it was comparatively impressive until the third season. While patience is tragic Ghosts Season 4’s story made it easy to feel sorry for her, seeing how much more powerful she was than the rest of the ghosts was a stunning surprise. Even though actor Richie Moriarty said TV line The power of patience was “Intense”, the jump from moving small objects small distances to making the walls bleed was too big. Fortunately, this improved the series, something proven by comparison with its 2019 predecessor.

The British series of the same name that Ghosts is based on is more grounded and features fewer supernatural elements (apart from, obviously, the ghosts of the same name). As such, any “Powers” are minimal and mostly just jokes. In contrast, CBS Ghosts quickly made the ghosts’ powers central to the series. Trevor changed things up in the pilot and Thor accidentally used his electricity-manipulating powers to set fire to a brand-new gazebo in the series’ first Halloween episode. The powers drive the plot in this version of Ghoststherefore, more impactful powers mean wilder stories.
Ghosts Season 4 Halloween Episode Makes Next Power Reveal Even Better
Pete’s patience and powers prove Hetty’s abilities can be anything
While Ghosts Alexander Hamilton’s promised appearance in season 4 is exciting, the unknown ghost powers are now one of the sitcom’s most interesting mysteries. Characters like Hetty don’t yet know their abilities, and the increasing complexity of the new ghost powers means they could be anything. Whether it’s Patience making the walls bleed, Pete leaving the mansion grounds, or Sass entering the dreams of the living, ghosts can seemingly discover their powers to be just about anything.
Ghosts has a perfect opportunity to give Hetty an ability that is equal parts unexpected and impressive.
This means the reveal of Hetty’s powers could be more than just a joke. Especially after she tried to summon powers in “Halloween IV: The Witch” and got nowhere, Ghosts has the perfect opportunity to give her an ability that is equal parts unexpected and impressive. This would serve to reiterate how much the sitcom’s characters don’t know the extent of their own abilities and may even do something to bridge the gap between the show’s human characters and the ghosts of Ghosts.
