Mortal Kombat 1 is gearing up for the release of Ghostface, and NetherRealm Studios is teasing the killer’s arrival by showing them facing off against an iconic comic book character. THE Mortal Kombat community is increasingly excited to get their hands on Ghostface as the Scream the villain has already made waves thanks to the thematically appropriate move set. It may initially be strange to see the serial killer face off against the likes of Sub-Zero and Raiden, but Ghostface’s savagery and commitment to death more than justifies his place on the list.
Screen speech can officially reveal an exclusive character introduction that pits Ghostface – x2 – against InvincibleThe Omni-Man as the fighters exchange verbal blows before starting to fight. Check out the clip below!
Not only is it fun to see Omni-Man recoil from a knife strike, but it’s also great to hear two veteran voice actors, Roger L. Jackson and JK Simmons, share a brief moment before the start of the fight. Ghostface joins Mortal Kombat 1 in early access on November 19th with full release on November 26th.
Ghostface looks like a great Mortal Kombat guest
Continuing a lineage of horror villains
Ghostface is the latest horror film icon to guest star in Mortal Kombatfollowing a tradition that includes Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and even the Xenomorph. Based on the trailers, NetherRealm has done an excellent job of capturing the essence of Scream films in the killer’s kit. Many of the assassin’s combos involve enlisting the help of a double to continue a series of attacks or set up the next big juggle. The theme of multiple Ghostface killers is a recurring aspect of the Scream films.
Even Ghostface’s Fatalities reflect Ghostface’s fun metanarrative. Scream. The most elaborate one sees the game zoom out of the TV screen to show Johnny Cage playing Mortal Kombat 1 while becoming increasingly frustrated with the fact he cannot defeat”a guy with a knife.“ The Fatality ends with the “real” Ghostface murdering Johnny Cage, a fun nod to the constant fourth-wall breaking the film series is known for.
Our Take: Can’t wait to play as Ghostface in Mortal Kombat
They look like a… scream
Besides the fact that I’m a big Scream fan, I think Ghostface will be a great addition to Mortal Kombat 1. Though they may just be”a guy with a knife”, the terror that Ghostface managed to inflict on so many generations is enough to justify his place in the game.
I also appreciate how much care and attention was put into the character: I doubt I’ll ever get tired of hearing the horror movie “sting” sound effect whenever they pull off a particularly brutal combo. Luckily, there isn’t much time left to wait until Ghostface joins Mortal Kombat 1.
