The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim could be the second time that a Lord of the Rings dragon appears on the screen. Tolkien was famous for creating countless kinds of fantasy in his 1937 novel, The Hobbit, and his 1954 novel, The Lord of the Rings. These fictional species have influenced countless fantasy creators. For example, the halflings and Balors in Dungeons and Dragons They were originally called Hobbits and Balrogs, but their names had to change following a copyright dispute with the Tolkien Estate. The War of the Rohirrim the film could, once again, bring exposure to one of Tolkien’s most iconic creations.
Warner Bros.’ The War of the Rohirrimreleasing on December 13, 2024, it will be the first anime Lord of the Rings film made by Warner Bros. or any other official studio. Of the Lord of the Rings dragons, only Smaug appeared on screen
Another Lord of the Rings dragon may finally be adapted
The first time a Lord of the Rings dragon appeared on the screen was in Peter Jackson The Hobbit trilogy, which was based on the children’s book of the same name by high fantasy pioneer JRR Tolkien. Considering the popularity of Dragon House, the influence of The Hobbit Smaug cannot be underestimated. But Tolkien described many dragons, including the first – Glaurung. And the greatest – Ancalagon the Black. But of all this Lord of the Rings’ terrifying dragons, only Smaug appeared on the screen. The War of the Rohirrim could change that.
War of the Rohirrim source material includes the tale of Scatha
Scatha died before Smaug in old age
While Glaurung and Ancalagon were killed in the First Age, and Smaug was killed by Bard at the end of the Third Age, Scatha existed some time before Smaug in the Third Age. The misadventures of Glaurung and Ancalagon are described in The Silmarillionwhile Scatha appears in “The House of Eorl”, giving The War of the Rohirrim a great opportunity. The fantastical Third Age lore that documents Scatha occurs shortly before the story of the Rohirrim’s war with the Dunlendings in “The House of Eorl.” Scatha was dead before the events of the film, but could still participate in it.
