John Lawson, who played Kano in 2021 Mortal Kombat film, teased the character's return in the anticipated sequel, Mortal Kombat 2. Following the success of the 2021 film, which grossed $84 million worldwide against a budget of $55 million and became HBO Max's most successful film release at the time, Mortal Kombat 2 promises to expand the story and bring back fan-favorite characters, some in unexpected ways. Despite meeting a grim fate in the first film, Kano will return for another round, this time with what Lawson describes as a “2.0“version of your character.
In a recent conversation with The direct, Lawson teased Kano's future. Even though the character started out as a good guy in 2021 Mortal Kombathe later turned against Earthrealm after being offered a huge amount of money, which led to his death at the hands of Jessica McNamee's Sonya. As we all know, if someone is a gaming fan, Kano's allegiances can change in the blink of an eye, and that's certainly true in the second… [It’s going to] keep you alert, guessing [about] who Kano is on the side with.
