Game Of Thrones’ Night King Book Change Is The Real Reason The White Walkers Ending Didn’t Work

Game of Thrones Made a big change to the books with the Night King, and it ended up hurting the story. What happened to the White Walkers was a big reason game of thrones The ending was heavily criticized, as the threat was dealt with in only three episodes of the final season, despite having been built up since the opening scene of the entire show.

The Long Night was just one night, with the Night King killed by Arya Stark to eliminate all White Walkers and Wights. As a result of this, Game of Thrones Season 8 left behind a lot of questions about them, which added to the frustration. However, it is a problem that could have been avoided if the Night King had never existed in the first place. This is a radical change to the show, however Not To the books of George RR Martin.

Game of Thrones invented the Night King

This character does not exist in GRRM’s A Song of Ice and Fire

Game of Thrones Introduced the Night King in season 4, revealing him turning a baby into a White Walker, however This character does not exist in Martin A Song of Ice and Fire novels. The others – the more common term for the White Walkers in the books – do exist and have a similar narrative function, but they don’t have any kind of recognized king or leader, at least not by A dance with dragons.

The introduction is one of a few changes the show made to the other books. Their appearance is different too, vi Game of ThronesName is more like ice zombies, although they are a bit more inhuman, ethereal and even beautiful in the novels. The White Walkers also speak in the books, making a sound like cracking ice, which was ultimately cut from the show. They are relatively small, however, compared to the creation of the Night King.

In the books, the closest king is the Night King (note the apostrophe), who was the 13th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.

Inventing the Night King is an understandable decisionAs it gives the White Walkers a clear face. It creates a true TV villain, an ultimate enemy that must be defeated. In the books, the closest king is the Night King (note the apostrophe), who was the 13th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. According to legend, he fell in love with a White Walker, and they ruled together, committing many atrocities, but he is not the Night King. Martin himself described the discrepancy in a comment on his Not a blog page:

“As for the Night’s King (the form I prefer), in the books he is a legendary figure, similar to Lann the Wise and Brandon the Builder, and no more likely to have survived to this day than they have. ”

How the Night King changed the White Walkers and hurt their end

It could have been better without him, despite some great moments

The man who becomes the Night King is tied to a tree, facing one of the Children of the Forest holding a dragonglass dagger.

in A Song of Ice and FireThe others function mainly as a force of nature, albeit a supernatural one. They are somewhat similar to Westeros’ climate change: an almost unstoppable threat that requires all of humanity to defeat it. Martin seeks to explore the good And Bad in people in his work, looking at the human heart in conflict with itself, but the others are a different threat because they are not technically evil. They move towards their own needs, seeking to destroy all of humanity because that is simply what they do.

This is true to an extent Game of ThronesHowever The Night King forces the change because he means they are entirely human. The origin of the Night King goes back to the Children of the Forest, who created him (and perhaps other White Walkers) while at war with the First Men. This means that it is built into their very being, that they are not just a nature, which fundamentally changes what is required of an evil person.

With the Night King established as the once-human Big Bad, it means there should be more about his motivation, his past and what he really wants.

Initially, this actually worked well. The Night King turning a baby is a chilling moment (though not one that necessarily requires its existence). Next, him staring down Jon Snow in Hardhome, and raising his arms and raising the dead, is one of the show’s most haunting, indelible images. But for the issues it causes later down the line, I’m not sure it’s entirely worth it when seen as a whole, especially since there aren’t more of those moments to justify it.

With the Night King established as the once-human Big Bad, it means there should be more about his motivation, his past and what he really wants. Game of Thrones Only half-explained why the Night King wanted Bran Stark, without getting into too much detail about it. But because the Night King effectively exists as a person, and not just some supernatural force of destruction, this is not enough. He is a real character, but without real characterizationAnd that means the end of The White Walkers leaves much more to be desired because so much is unexplained.

A song of ice and fire, others may have a better story

The long night should be better in the books

Although I think it’s possible that Martin will add his own twist to the creation of the White Walkers A Song of Ice and FireIncluding their links to the children of the forest, it should be better than that Game of Thrones did. Partly this is because there is more room for a deeper exploration of them, and if we get such a twist, it will probably be fully explained. But the absence of the night king also makes that easier, but there is less to explain, and even as a creation of the children, they can still work as an unstoppable force.

There are other factors that should help make this version of the books better, not least making the Long Night, well, longer. It’s easy to imagine Martin devoting hundreds of pages and multiple POV chapters to it, with it happening in different locations, rather than just one night in Winterfell. Of course, that depends on The winds of winter Get a release date, but optimistically speaking, it should hit Game of ThronesPrecisely because it is already so different.
