Speaking of TV shows, I’ve always loved alternative history and Jane Grey, England’s nine-day queen, has always fascinated me. Small wonder, then, that I really enjoyed MY LADY JANE, a clever and original historical fantasy on Amazon Prime, set in an England full of witches and change-changers, where Jane lasts more than nine days.
Meredith Glynn is one of the showrunners. I had the pleasure of working with her on one of the GAME OF THRONES spinoffs that HBO shelved a few years ago, and knowing her talents, it didn’t surprise me that my lady Jane was so much fun. Witty and original, it reminded me a bit of THE GREAT, a show I loved. Alas, the great one is gone, and it appears that my lady Jane is too. Amazon did not renew it for a second season.
Prime Video has faced a fan outcry
My Lady Jane Currently enjoys an impressive 95% critics score Rotten tomatoesAnd the audience score, now called the Popcornmeter, is similarly strong at 90%. This series is superior to the Prime Video version BridgertonBut the audience is obviously not strong enough to justify making My Lady Jane Season 2.
Despite only running for eight episodes, My Lady Jane Developed a passionate fan following, and a petition on Change.org for season 2 has now amassed more than 67,000 signatures. Martin’s new blog post might actually encourage more people to check out the show. Historically, fan campaigns have had success with lengthening a show’s run, as was seen with Series II Warrior Nun, Brooklyn Nine-NineAnd Community. Prime Video has yet to confirm the fan campaign, however A strong enough audience response has the potential to have an impact.
