Game-breaking Star Wars Outlaws bugs may require you to delete your save file

Ubisoft asked some Star Wars Outlaws Players to reset their save files before the game is even officially launched. The new open world Star Wars Game was scheduled for release on August 30th, but early access was made available on August 27th. Players who purchased the pricier Gold Edition of the game have to start playing the game earlyIn addition to other perks. For $109.99, players get the game and season pass, two cosmetic items and a digital art book. Now it looks like the early access part of the perks may be back.

Pre-launch bugs have led to the game already receiving an update. This apparently caused trouble for Early Access players. In an email shared on Reddit by JACOAEUbisoft tells players, “To best experience The Outer Rim, we’re rolling out maintenance to make sure everyone is playing the latest version of the game.

To that end, email recipients are asked to check that they are playing the latest version of the game, version 1.000.002. Once the correct version is confirmed, players are asked to start a new save file. Affected players are encouraged to “Please start a new save to fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as our team intended.

This email is not being sent to every Early Access player, though. It seems likely that the issue is platform-specific, with Issue reports from PS5 users only.

Fans are annoyed but not surprised, though Star Wars Outlaws Otherwise they are well received. The Reddit post is filled with comments urging others to stop paying for early access, claiming it’s often more akin to paying to beta test an unfinished game. Some specifically call out Ubisoft, which is known to have issues with its games at launch, typically because of their incredible scale. Ubisoft is one of many recent big game names that often seem to cave in to the pressure of releasing games quickly, before they are quite ready. Ubisoft often announces games too early, seemingly putting them on too short of a deadline, resulting in technical issues.

Rumors about an open world Star Wars Game started circulating around January 2023, and an official announcement followed in June at the Xbox Games Showcase. It seems that the game could have used a little more testing before releasing to players who spent extra to start the game early. On the other hand, waiting too long would also hurt the launch of the game. Star Wars Outlaws Will officially launch on August 30 to everyone, and hopefully by then most of the issues will be addressed. Ubisoft doesn’t have a great track record for bug-free releases, but it’s possible that the three-day head start will help avoid issues.
