Green Lantern villain Crona seeks “ultimate truth”
First appearance: Green Lantern #40 by John Broome and Gil Kane
Crona is unique in that, like Galactus, he was not born a god-level being. Instead, he was a scientist from Malthus, the same planet that is home to the Guardians of the Universe, who went on to create the Green Lantern Corps. Krona created a machine that pierced the time and space barrier, witnessing the beginning of time but shattering the universe in the process, creating the multiverse. This event also caused the Oans to become the Guardians of the Universe.
The Guardians turned Crona into pure energy and banished him. Although he returned many times to cause trouble, he regained his original form, albeit with limited power, after the evil Nekron freed him. It took the entire Green Lantern Corps to stop him, but he still survived, later becoming the embodiment of entropy and forcing the new Guardians of the Universe to face him in battle. His obsession led him to start destroying entire universes to see his dream realized.
