Because the monsters are willing to trick the residents to ensure that they can kill Tian-Chen in front of Boyd, it seems that they will orchestrate even more events that will drive people out of their homes at night. This could potentially be in relation to the fallout of Kenny’s mom dying, or related to a different storyline altogether, as Jim (Eion Bailey) searches for his wife, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno). No matter how the creatures’ plans relate to other ongoing mysteries, It seems that the sheriff will be facing the brunt of their anger.

Our take on Boyd’s suffering from season 3

His journey could break him

Boyd looks concerned as he talks to Jade in Season 3, Ep 1

With Tian-Chen now dead, Boyd is likely to feel responsible for what happened, especially once Kenny learns of his mother’s horrified fate. However, since this is only the beginning of his suffering in the coming episodes, of Season 3 could break him if the creatures provide enough hopelessness to the city. Although it is unclear what their next plan is, their intentions emphasize how much they want to break down the protagonist, piece by piece.
