Free Disney Lorcana Promo Card for Moana 2 Revives a Long-Lost Film Tradition I Desperately Need to See More of

Disney Lorcana is running a fun promotion to celebrate the launch of the next Moana 2 film. Fans who come to their local cinema and watch the film will receive a free gift Moana Disney Lorcana Card. She’s a fan-favorite character, for sure, so it makes sense to have that connection, especially considering a new Lorcana set was just released. However, when you get a free Moana card is always cool, it’s not the real reason I’m so excited.

Now that I’ve perfectly adapted to Azurite Seas’ best starting deck, I’m naturally happy to start adding Lorcana’s latest cards to my collection. Poppin’ this new Moana promotional card in my collection will be fun, as well as seeing Moana 2. However, this promotional card means much more to me than simply adding to my collection. Hopefully it signals the return of a glorious era of cinemaone that I loved dearly as a child and hope future generations can enjoy in the same way.

Only at ODEON and HOYTS cinemas

For those in Europe or Australia and New Zealand, Disney Lorcana is running a promotion to match the new Moana 2 film. If fans book tickets to see Moana 2 at an ODEON cinema in participating European regions, or at HOYTS cinemas in New Zealand and Australia, they will receive a completely free “Moana – Adventurer of Land and Sea” promotional card. While not the best Disney Lorcana card, it’s a fun reward for seeing the movie in the theater instead of waiting for it to appear on Disney+.

As a big fan of Lorcana and adorer of the first Moana movie, it’s really fun to see this cross-promotion. There’s something incredibly new and exciting about seeing a movie in the theater and then getting a tangible item related to that movie. Of course, the various popcorn buckets or cups shaped like superhero heads or giant sandworm mouths serve this purpose and, admittedly, are a lot of fun. I even have a popcorn bucket shaped like an Indiana Jones hat that I still find hilarious every time I use it.

However, as someone who grew up during the TCG boom of the early 2000s, getting a card tied directly to the film was always more fun. It’s great to see Disney Lorcana appreciate this tradition. Even those who are not interested in the TCG can find a use for the Moana card, whether to use it as a mini poster or to sell it, as it will become one of the most valuable Disney Lorcana cards for a while. Of course, I hope, like Disney, that it gets a new set of fans interested in the excellent card game.

Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh promo cards made those movies more memorable

For those who caught it early Pokémon movies at the cinema or, like me, I went to see the Yu-Gi-Oh movie, promo cards are a nostalgic trip. As a kid, getting a promotional package was the best thing that ever happened to me, especially because it came in fancy gold foil that was a pleasure to unwrap. It didn’t really matter what cards were inside, but the exciting art and powerful monsters included were incredible. I promptly put them all on my deck when I got home while thinking about the movie I had seen.

That’s the magic of promotional cards. Of course, they’re a corporate tie-in, which I can’t help but feel a little cynical about. However, they enjoy the childlike wonder of getting a free toy. More specific to promotional cards was the fact that they introduced a whole new audience to the game they were promoting. Outside Yu-Gi-Ohwhich I have a hard time imagining people enjoying without at least some knowledge of the TCG, the trading card game has always been secondary. For many, including me, the Pokémon anime and video games were the introduction to this series, not the TCG.

Unlike toys or posters, getting a card tied directly to a game makes you want to go out and buy more of those cardsespecially if it has amazing art, like some of Lorcana’s prettiest cards. So, if this Moana card could attract a whole new audience to play it, that would be amazing. Sometimes that’s all the encouragement someone needs, like when someone gives me a comic as a gift and I suddenly feel like collecting them all.

I really hope this Moana The card could serve as not only a great introduction to Disney Lorcana for a new audience, but also usher in the era of getting free stuff every time you watch a movie.

It’s a shame for me that these promotional cards are gone after a while. Of course, we have much less Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh films, but in truth, any form of promotional tie-in has disappeared. There have been a few things here and there, but usually it’s just the chance to make money or a trip somewhere.

I miss that feeling of receiving a package or card and being able to take it with me after the movie ends. It was like taking a piece of the movie home with me. I really hope this Moana The card could serve as not only a great introduction to Disney Lorcana for a new audience, but also usher in the era of getting free stuff every time you watch a movie.

Free posters, game items or figures

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles side by side in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The free Disney Lorcana promo card got me thinking about how more games should have movie ties. I mean, we live in a world where video game adaptations are actually respected pieces of media and not frowned upon films with little cultural value. Sure, not every video game movie is an incredible masterpiece, but they’re generating bigger audiences and higher critical scores, and that’s what matters. Most importantly, from a purely cynical point of view, they are ripe for cross-promotion.

Much like the way the Moana card will encourage fans to check out the incredibly well-received Azurite Seas set, a fun promotion for a video game movie could encourage people to go out and buy the latest game in the series.

Call to actionfor example, it frequently cross-promotes with brands like Papa Johns and Mountain Dew. Players will receive in-game items and a tasty pizza. What’s not to love? It baffles me that films like Sonic I didn’t have a similar approach. to put bums on seats. A free keychain, a demo of a linked game, or some sort of in-game item would make sense. SEGA made a completely free game Sonic visual novel for April Fools’ Day, so it doesn’t seem like a stretch to get some kind of fun toy to watch the movie with.

It’s not just Sonic that this could work, but really any form of video game movie. They are the ideal target for cross-promotion as they have tangible products that fans can interact with once the film is over. Much like the way the Moana card will encourage fans to check out the incredibly well-received Azurite Seas set, a fun promotion for a video game movie can encourage people to go out and buy the latest game in the series.

It’s easy to feel like I just want free stuff every time I see a movie. However, I really just want other people to enjoy the same feeling I had as a kid when I got my first promotional package. It’s great that Disney Lorcana is restarting this trend, even if it means, at the very least, only Disney films are getting promotional cards. This means more people will come in Disney Lorcanamore people will feel the joy of receiving a gift and more people will start going to the cinema, which is an advantage in my opinion.
