With just one year since Fortnite first relaunched its OG map, the team at Epic Games is now announcing that it’s here to stay as a permanent game mode. While it was previously limited to one week of the month per season, we’re yet to see how this new mode will shake things up. As players prepare to dive back into their favorite classic adventure, there may be a lot more at stake than meets the eye.
This return to previous seasons is not the first time Fortnite capitalized on nostalgia. By bringing back old loot pools, POIs, and other classic elements from the game when it first launched, Epic Games has consistently tried to revitalize what the game once was. But without new true seasons and this new competition within your own game, Fortnite and other free shooters may be on track to face difficulties in the future.
Fortnite returns to previously beloved seasons
Classic seasons return along with the permanent OG map
Bringing back its OG map last year allowed a record number of players to fortnite, particularly following an unpopular Chapter 4 that preceded it. As players have craved the nostalgia of their favorite map for many years since its loss, it’s no surprise that due to its return, many older fans have returned to relive their classic experiences. With the map progressively evolving over time, as well as items matching the game’s release, it all felt like a very authentic original. Fortnite experience.
Now that the game brings back Chapter 2 as a Remix, Epic Games continues to capitalize on older gamers’ nostalgia in hopes that they will see a mass return. With these beloved seasons brought to life once again, many have returned to the game when they would have otherwise moved on to other newer titles. The announcement that O.G. Fortnite Here to Stay as a Permanent Mode is also groundbreaking for the future of free-to-play games in general, potentially indicating something much more worrying behind the scenes.
Players prefer nostalgia in Fortnite
Are players only interested in previous seasons?
While many are excited about O.G. staying Fortnite and flashbacks to your favorite seasons of Chapter 2, This need to deepen players’ nostalgia is perhaps much more worrying than it seems. As one of the few games that has done this now, with Apex Legends Royale Launch and Classic Overwatch Thus, it appears that this problem is not limited to just Fifteen days. Instead, fans of all free shooters are losing interest in the current state of their favorite games.
With these great limited modes giving players the opportunity to reflect on what they once loved about their favorite games, it seems daunting to consider how they will move forward. Their performances also indicate a declining player base behind the scenesas these bold moves to bring back the past will almost certainly bring back gamers eager for older experiences. Although free shooting games like Fortnite continue their popularity, it may not be long before these blasts to the past catch up with them, as the most recent seasons fail to impress.
