Focus Cast and Character Guide

2015 comedy-drama from Will Smith and Margot Robbie Focus It has a lot of star power in its leads, but it also has a surprisingly notable cast of characters. Focus it was quite controversial when it was released; it has a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 56% and an audience score of 53%. It seemed like no one could agree if Focus was it a fun heist film full of betrayals and twists or whether it was an incoherent and overly complicated film. Now, however, Focus gained popularity on Netflix and is likely due – at least in part – to the film’s stellar cast.

Margot Robbie and Will Smith’s collaboration on Focus was one of the film’s main selling points, but it wasn’t the only time the actors worked together. 2016 Suicide Squad reunited Robbie and Smith after Focusand gave viewers another taste of their excellent on-screen chemistry. Interestingly, though, Robbie and Smith weren’t the only actors who reunited in Focussince the film also brought in two stars from Longmireone of the best western TV shows of all time, back together. In addition to the reunions, the cast of Focus it also helped make the film so enjoyable to watch, and they’re names worth knowing.

Will Smith as Nicky

Date of birth: September 25, 1968

Actor: Will Smith was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Smith had his breakout role in one of his most iconic shows of all time, The Fresh Prince of Bel-AiR. Before this show, Smith gained fame in a completely different industry: as a rapper called The Fresh Prince. Since the 1990s, Smith has become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and has appeared in long-running franchises such as Men in black and Bad Boysand he even won an Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in King Richard.

Character: In FocusWill Smith plays the main character, Nicky. Nicky was a conman and master manipulator who ran several high-profile jobs. Although he claims that a con artist can never lose focus, Nicky’s estranged father Bucky and Jess become distractions for him in the film.

Margot Robbie as Jess

Date of birth: July 2, 1990

Actor: Margot Robbie was born in Dalby, Queensland, Australia. Robbie’s breakthrough role was in Martin Scorsese’s film The Wolf of Wall Streetwhere he acted opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. Before that, however, Robbie gained notoriety in Australia due to his role in the soap opera Neighbors. Now, Robbie is one of the most famous actors in the world and has starred in several notable films such as Suicide Squad and Barbie. She was also nominated for two Oscars, in I, Tonya and Bombastic.

Character: In FocusMargot Robbie plays Jess, Nicky’s love interest and an aspiring con artist. Nicky and Jess had a brief relationship before splitting, but they finally reunited three years later.

Rodrigo Santoro as Garriga

Date of birth: August 22, 1975

Actor: Rodrigo Santoro was born in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Santoro’s breakout role came in 2003, thanks to two films: Love, actuallywhere he played Karl, and Charlie’s Angels: Full steam aheadwhere he played Randy Emmers. Since then, Santoro has portrayed major characters in several notable projects such as 300 and Western World. Santoro also remains active in English and Spanish language projects to this day.

Character: In FocusRodrigo Santoro plays Garriga, owner of a Brazilian motorsport club. Garriga hires Nicky and his team to sabotage his competition and unwittingly reunites the con artist with Jess.

Adrian Martinez as Farhad

Date of birth: January 20, 1972

Actor: Adrian Martinez was born in New York City, New York. Martinez’s breakthrough role was in 2013 The Secret Life of Walter Mittywhere he played Hernando alongside Ben Stiller. Interestingly, Martinez had already gained notoriety before this, appearing in a series of State Farm ads as the man wearing a Green Bay Packers cheese hat and doing the “double check discount” dance for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Since then, Martinez has had a successful acting career and made his directorial debut in 2021 with Gilberto.

Character: In FocusAdrian Martinez plays Farhad, a member of Nicky’s team. Throughout FocusFarhad became good friends with Jess and played a major role in her scams.

Focus on the cast and supporting characters

Gerald McRaney as Owens: In FocusGerald McRaney plays Owens, the head of Garriga’s security team who has a big secret. McRaney is best known for films such as The A teamwhere he played General Morrison, and The never ending storywhere he played Bastian’s father. McRaney also appeared in Longmire as Barlow Connally, alongside his Focus co-star Robert Taylor.

BD Wong as Liyuan: BD Wong plays Liyuan in Focusthe target Nicky chooses to play football with. Wong is known for Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchises, where he plays Dr. Wu, and for the TV series Mister Robotwhere she played Whiterose.

Robert Taylor as McEwen: Robert Taylor plays McEwen in Focus. McEwen owned a rival auto racing team that Garriga hired Nicky to sabotage. Taylor is best known for his eponymous role of Sheriff Walt Longmire in Longmireas well as films such as Megwhere he played Heller.
