Warning! Potential spoilers ahead for Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – The Kryptonian Age #5
DC S Flash has received one of its most twisted redesigns ever, as part of DC Comics’ alternate continuity Batman History The Kryptonian AgeA sequel to the iconic Other worlds History Gotham by Gaslight. The series continues the Victorian era reimagining of classic superhero characters, with this new take on the Flash being one of the series’ most daring creative decisions yet.
The preview for Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – The Kryptonian Age #5 continues the story of the Elseworlds miniseries, which has so far involved Alternate versions of Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Green Lantern, Catwoman and even the Suicide Squad, and now The Flash.
The solicitations for this issue promise a showdown with the sheriff of Smallville, which fans can recognize from the main cover will be the universe’s answer to Superman. The preview introduces this Other worlds incarnation of the speedster, and his new beginning is surprisingly bleak.

Jay Garrick makes his Gotham by Gaslight Debut in the last Gotham by Gaslight issue, where it is revealed that he is an assistant working for Lex Luthor. When a meteor-like object fell to Earth in 1860, both Luthor and Garrick conducted experiments on a lightning bolt-shaped artifact. After the meteor strikes, the artifact surges with power, causing Luthor to lose all his hair, and Garrick to be “Electro-statically frozen in a flash.” Luthor explains that Garrick seems to be stuck in a moment in time, unable to succumb to gravity.

Whether Garrick will get out of his current predicament to find himself gifted with super-speed remains to be seen, but The thought of being stuck in time, constantly falling, sounds like a living nightmare. The creative team behind The Kryptonian Age has found some creative ways to bring classic DC characters into the Gotham by Gaslight-verse, such as turning Adam Strange into an Antarctic explorer who discovers ancient Kryptonian ruins on Earth. When he’s there, he encounters a particularly dark version of Wonder Woman, who seems to come from an ancient civilization all her own.

With all the cameos seen so far, it will be most interesting to see what DC heroes and villains show up next in the world of Gotham by Gaslight. There’s only one issue to go after this one, so fans who haven’t checked out the series yet should catch up and see if The series debuts its own version of Justice League in the Victorian age before all is said and done. With Superman and Jay Garrick’s Flash Fans making their debut here won’t want to miss the latest issue of Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – The Kryptonian Age.
