It took five years, but Star Wars finally confirmed how dangerous Dark Rey would have been The Rise of Skywalker
– and even suggested how Daisy Ridley’s Rey could have become a villain in the first place. Grossing US$1.077 billion at the global box office, The Rise of Skywalker was panned by critics. While it is far from a perfect film, it includes many ideas that were unfortunately underdeveloped; concepts like the Force Dyad or Rey’s tantalizing vision of a future in which she has turned to the dark side.
The latest update for EA Games‘ Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes features Dark Rey; The entire lore is always overseen by Lucasfilm, soThe details of his abilities illuminate both the story and the character’s potential power.

What’s impressive about Dark Rey’s powers is that they have synergy with Kylo Ren, but not Palpatine. This seems to suggest that Dark Rey was not simply a vision of Rey possessed by Palpatine; rather, this was a Rey who actually surrendered to the dark side and who actually became a Sith. Kylo Ren wasn’t a Sith, but Dark Rey would have been, and she would have been even more powerful because she ruled the First Order alongside him. The power of the Force Dyad would have granted them some very dangerous synergies.
What Star Wars’ Dark Rey Tips Really Mean
She has synergy with Kylo Ren – not Palpatine
Dark Rey’s scene in The Rise of Skywalker was clearly standardized after The Empire Strikes Backwhen Luke Skywalker discovered a vision of himself in Darth Vader’s mask when he entered the Force on Dagobah. The main problem, though, is that the idea felt much more ephemeral and ill-defined, leaving many wondering if this was actually a vision of Dark Rey – or one that showed what Rey would have become if she had been possessed by Palpatine. The lack of Galaxy of Heroes Synergies between Dark Rey and Palpatine suggest the former.
The scariest thing, however, is that Dark Rey is actually a Sith. It’s unclear whether, in the timeline that created Darth Rey, she would have been Palpatine’s apprentice – or his assassin. The last option is the most intriguing because it would actually mean she was parallel to Kylo Ren, who killed his own mentor. As exciting as Star Wars‘ are new revelations about Dark Rey, they’re also a little frustrating because it would be exciting to see that timeline.
Our opinion on Dark Rey
A story that is begging to be told
The Rise of Skywalker It was a far from satisfactory conclusion to the Skywalker saga. The biggest weakness lies in the fact that there are so many ideas thrown around; Force Dyads, Sith strongholds, resurrected emperors and more. Any of these concepts were brought up for further exploration, but the film itself only gave them cursory attention. Frankly, it’s great to learn a lot more about Dark Rey – and hope someone decides to make one Star Wars “What If” story showing how things would have turned out.
