All-Metallic Panic! is a classic mecha series, which many fans may be familiar with from its multiple anime adaptations over the years. Now, this long-running series will finally have a sequel and will show the characters from the original as adults.
All-Metallic Panic! began as a series of light novels in 1998, publishing a total of 12 books, with the series finally ending in 2010. It was adapted into several anime throughout that period, including All-Metallic Panic! in 2002, the parody series Fumoffu in 2003, a suitable sequel called All-Metallic Panic! The second attack in 2005 and finally All-Metallic Panic! Invisible Victory in 2018. The franchise continued long after the conclusion of the original book series, with several spinoff manga and light novels. Now, however, there is an official sequel starring the original series’ protagonists, Kaname Chidori and Sosuke Sagara.
The sequel series explores Kaname and Sosuke’s life together
According to Anime News Networkthe new series, titled All-Metallic Panic! Family, will be a manga adaptation of the light novel of the same name by original creator Shoji Gatoh, who debuted in Kadokawa’s series. Dragon magazine in July 2023. The manga adaptation will be illustrated by Ohige Kamisori and will premiere on Dragon Age magazine on December 9, 2024. The story is said to revolve around Kaname and Sosuke’s life together as adults, which is hopefully a little more peaceful than their high school days were.
It’s not often that fans get to see their favorite characters actually grow up, so All-Metallic Panic! Family It’s a unique opportunity to do something interesting with the series’ characters. While there are few details about the content of the new story available at this time, the story is said to be set 20 years after the conclusion of the original series, and Sosuke and Kaname appear to have children.
A new series could change the way fans think about the franchise
The new manga represents the beginning of a very different era for All-Metallic Panic! Given that the series’ popularity peaked in the early 2000s, it makes sense that a sequel would want to accurately reflect the time that has passed, allowing the series’ protagonists to age along with their fans. While series sequels have become a bit more common in recent years, such as Boruto or Yashahimethey generally focus on the children of the original protagonists, placing the former main characters in the background. It doesn’t seem like this will be the case All-Metallic Panic!however, despite Sosuke and Kaname’s children appearing on the cover.
All-Metallic Panic! has always been an interesting series, putting its characters first over the mecha, and has created a genuinely great story as a result. Seeing Sosuke and Kaname as adults will be very rewarding after all the struggles they faced to get this far together, and without a doubt the two have also grown as people in the intervening 20 years. While there’s still no word on a possible English localization of the manga, as it hasn’t even debuted in Japan yet, fans of All-Metallic Panic! they should keep their fingers crossed that it arrives sooner rather than later.
