Final Boss and Brotherhood Ending Explained (In Detail)

The recent RPG release of Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood ushers in the return of Mario and Luigi series while introducing a whole world of new characters. However, there’s a lot more than electricity puns going on here, with an epic story that touches on the power of human connection and solitude. After Mario, Luigi, and several others from the Mushroom Kingdom are teleported to this new land, it’s up to the brothers to save the world.

Warning: The following article includes major spoilers for the story and ending of Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood. Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood offers RPG fans many surprising revelations about its unique story, set in the land of Concordia. Throughout the game, players spend much of their time linking islands that became separate and isolated after the land’s unifying Uni-Tree was destroyed. With the help of young Wattanista, Connie, who is creating a new Uni-Tree, it can be fun to visit the different islands and bring them together.

As you’d expect, the initial cataclysm wasn’t a natural occurrence, and Mario and Luigi soon found themselves chasing down some bad guys. Sailing the currents on their island ship, Shipshape, they eventually become entangled in a conspiracy to destroy the entire world through the use of a mystical power known as Glohm. Glohm causes individuals to become angry and sad and want to be completely alone, even attacking those they love.

What happens at the end of Mario & Luigi: Brothership

The story takes some electrifying twists

Mario and Luigi frequently come face to face with a trio known as the Extension Corps throughout the game. Working for the mysterious Zokket, they lead the research and dissemination of Glohm across the islands. Zokket, meanwhile, is secretive and is rarely seen until near the end of the game. Even the Extension Corps doesn’t know what Zokket’s ultimate goal is, but It’s clear that Zokket is looking for a way to break ties between any living soul and create a world of isolation.

Eventually, Mario and Luigi find their way to the Zokket Flying Fortress, where they finally face a ferocious Glohm-infected Bowser. After defeating Bowser and helping him return to normal, the Fortress begins emitting a massive amount of Glohm in a large explosion. Escaping the Flying Fortress as a large wave of pink energy explodes from it, Mario, Luigi and Snoutlet take a flying leap into the ocean.

The Great Maestro sees everything and knows everything

Additionally, Snoutlet’s secret identity is revealed

Miraculously surviving their plunge into the ocean, Mario and Luigi are awakened by Snoutlet on the beach of the island where Mario first appeared upon being sent out of the Mushroom Kingdom. A voice speaks to them in their heads, but that voice is calming and welcoming. Here they meet the Grand Maestro, who, in true RPG fashion, is essentially the legendary god of Concord. He was the one who brought Mario and his friends from the Mushroom Kingdom to Concordia to save the land, and he has been taking care of them.

This is where Snoutlet is revealed to be the Grand Maestro’s assistantwho was sent to help rebuild after the destruction of the Uni-Tree. The Grand Maestro explains to Mario and Luigi that they were chosen by him due to the power of their bond. It was also the Grand Maestro who gave Luigi the gift of Luigi Logic, which helped them solve puzzles along the way.

Only the strongest bonds of connection, whether in the form of family, friends, or love, can resist evil that is spreading across Concordia. To ensure they are up to the task of taking down the villains, the Grand Maestro tests Mario and Luigi. Players are given a mix of combat and mental puzzles as they have to choose the correct Mario or Luigi from several options and then get an excellent score on several of the Bros.

Zokket’s plan for worldwide isolation was overturned

What happened to Connie’s mentor Cozette?

Mario and Luigi: BrotherhoodThe Grand Maestro also reveals to Mario and Luigi that Zokket’s true identity is that of Connie’s beloved mentor and teacher, Cozette.who has fallen under some form of mind control.

After returning to Shipshape, the brothers discover that Zokket Fortress now has a huge barrier around it, but at least it is now in the ocean instead of flying. A few more islands are discovered and linked to the ship as Shipshape is equipped to bypass the barrier.

Once Mario and Luigi are inside Zokket Fortress, they are briefly separated due to an Extension Corps trap, but later unite and finally fight the trio. This is the only fight where opponents also use Battle Plugs, which ends up causing them to explode when they pick one they perhaps shouldn’t.

After this battle, Mario and Luigi are ready to face Zokket in an intense battle full of Glohm powers. Once Zokket is defeated, his form transforms into what he originally was, revealing the badly injured form of Connie’s mentor, Cozette.

Inmate, the true villain behind everything that emerges

The mysterious egg has been hatched

Defeating Zokket was hardly the end of the game, as Concordia’s true villain has yet to emerge. When Zokket/Cozette falls, the large Glohm-covered egg opens and Reclusa emerges. Recluse is an evil creature that believes that solitude is the only way to have a happy existence. He plans to isolate everyone at Concordia within their own individual, virtual dreams, where their mortal bodies will wither and die without them realizing it.

Zokket Fortress is surrounded by a large tree made of Glohm, called Soli-Tree, where Inmate is hidden and protected inside. Reclusa even appears to Mario and friends as a virtual avatar, taunting them with her goal of an isolated world.

Mario and Luigi are thrown into an imaginary world

This mushroom kingdom is not real

Shortly after breaching Soli-Tree’s defenses, Mario, Luigi, Snoutlet, and Connie come across an injured Cozette, who attempted to right her wrongs by facing Reclusa alone. Connie stays behind with Cozette, while the others enter the fortress. Suddenly, Mario and Luigi find themselves back in the Mushroom Kingdom, with Peach and all her friends waiting for them.

However, not everything is as it seems, and small problems begin to be noticed, such as Bowser and Peach having a party together and several times when the images they see are glitching. Snoutlet is with them in this dream and helps highlight that Lakitu’s camera reveals things that are not visible, such as platforms, boxes and even Reclusahimself.

Through the video camera’s mirror image, Mario and Luigi pursue Reclusa and eventually return to Concordia, freeing themselves from the flower headphones their bodies have been dominated by.

The final battle with Reclusa, parts one and two

Inmate is difficult to control

Facing the Inmate for the first time doesn’t go as expected. Reclusa summons hordes of minions who quickly overwhelm the brothers. Just as all hope seems lost, Bowser and his crew arrive in their airship and clear the area for the heroes. Inmate takes off and Snoutlet creates a flying plug for Mario and Luigi to ride on to chase it. Shooting fire and ice as they fly, they eventually think they’ve managed to take down Reclusa.

This villain just doesn’t stay down. Reclusa shows that he was creating a large tree form to take control, called Weeping Reclusa. Before a new fight can take place, Weeping Reclusa emits a mist of Glohm that knocks out Mario, Luigi, and Snoutlet.

the power of bonds in the Mario and Luigi Brotherhood

Meanwhile, Connie leaves Cozette to check out the battle, where she comes across the unconscious forms of Mario and Luigi. Using her watering can filled with the power of the bonds of personal connections at ConcordiaConnie sprays Mario and Luigi with the glowing power before she too passes out. Mario and Luigi fight the Weeping Reclusa in a few stages, but victory is not yet fully achieved.

Final battle with the last reincarnation of Reclusa

The power of titles saves Concordia

After defeating Weeping Recluse, Inmate takes on yet another form as Weeping Core. This huge, one-eyed ball of spikes fights Mario and Luigi and seems to analyze and remember their every move. This requires Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood players change their tactics rather than relying on a couple.

When the battle ends, Reclusa’s crumpled form is on the ground and looks regretful, until he starts laughing and gets up again. Fortunately, this final iteration is a quick fight, with Mario and Luigi hitting Reclusa as they fall through the air.

Finally, Recluse’s form disappears and when the Soli-Tree is destroyed, Mario, Luigi, Connie and Cozette escape using the power of their bond. After a brief celebration in Shipshape, the Grand Maestro sends the inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom home, but not without his own Uni-Tree sprout in Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood.
