Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards revealed that filming the dinosaur sequence was so dangerous that he had to hide casting details. The story of Jurassic World: Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, a covert ops specialist hired to collect genetic material from large dinosaurs alongside paleontologist Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) and team leader Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali). The mission takes them to tropical locations near the equator and then to the ocean, when a boat housing the Delgado family is attacked by dinosaurs while the crew is nearby.
Talking to Weekly entertainmentEdwards revealed how dangerous filming was Jurassic World Rebirth really was, and how he never informed the actors of the dangers they faced. The director explained how most of the film was filmed in swampy locations with poisonous snakes and spiders that needed to be avoided during filming. He also lamented the difficulties of filming in the ocean, saying that the combination of the two locations meant the actors were experiencing “physically demanding, sometimes near-death experiences.” Check out what Edwards had to say below:
I can say this now that we're on the other side, but we filmed in rivers and in these mangroves. When we were exploring them, we saw huge, poisonous water snakes that we needed to capture. We kept it a secret from the actors as they spent a whole day wandering around the same area. And there were giant spiders that were poisonous and other things on the edge of the trees. You just wouldn't point them out if you saw them. Just keep going!
It's probably the last film I shot in the ocean because it was very difficult. I'm glad we persevered, but I think everyone, all the actors, went through as crazy a journey as the characters in the film, these very physically demanding, sometimes near-death experiences that had these high-reward-if-you-can-do factors. be successful.
What the dangers of Edwards' filming reveal about the Jurassic World revival
The film's journey was just as harrowing in real life
Edwards' admission of how dangerous filming the film was reflects the harrowing journey his characters will embark on. While the cast of Jurassic World Rebirth didn't know about some elements of the filming that took place, the dedication to authenticity will likely make the film even more memorable. This, together with a roadmap Jurassic Park Writer David Koepp emphasizes the level of effort put into making the next chapter in the franchise an exciting and risky continuation of the previous trilogy.
While the end of Jurassic World Dominion opened the door to many new stories in the dinosaur franchise, this dangerous mission seems to be somewhat similar to The Lost World: Jurassic Park. However, despite Edwards' new aversion to filming in the ocean, the appearance of the Delgado family will help shake up the plot. This makes filming in these locations, although dangerous, an important factor in crafting the story that will be told. While it's unclear the extent of the safety measures the actors took, the director's response indicates they were always focused on keeping them safe.
