The original Destination/overnight the visual novel is divided into three distinct routes that have received anime adaptations over the years; the Destination and Unlimited Blade Works routes received full shows in 2006 and 2014, respectively, and the final route, Feeling of Heavenit was adapted into a trilogy of films from 2017 to 2020.
At the thematic level, the Feeling of Heaven trilogy is the definitive end of the original Destination/overnight story, and it’s finally coming to streaming. The film trilogy stands out as one of the best works of the Destination franchise, if not the best, then overall this is a long overdue announcement.
Why Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel should be seen by all Fate fans
Why the Heaven’s Feel trilogy is so good
Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel Coming to Crunchyroll is incredibly exciting and there are many reasons for that. To begin with, art and animation for Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel trilogy is one of the best of all time in modern animewith the final film, spring songparticularly standing out as one of the best anime action films of all time. Ufotable is famous for its animation, and the Feeling of Heaven the trilogy easily stands out as his best work to date.
More than that is the story that the trilogy tries to tell. Destination/overnight is structured in such a way that the developments of each route are intended to feed the story of those who follow it and, as such, Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel successfully builds on everything that has come before to tell an emotionally moving story that brings everyone’s character arcs to their peakespecially Shirou, who finally completes his stellar character development on a meta level. It’s a fitting grand finale to the original narrative, and any Destination fan would be remiss to ignore it.
Will the original Fate/Stay Night anime come to Crunchyroll?
With the Feeling of Heaven trilogy finally coming to Crunchyroll, the only Destination/overnight adaptation is not yet on Crunchyroll is the 2006 adaptation of Destination route through Studio Deen. While it made sense for Crunchyroll to add it so fans could get the entire series, the 2006 anime is currently licensed by HIDIVE, and HIDIVE generally doesn’t share its licenses with other streaming services. Because of this, the 2006 Destination/overnight the anime is unlikely to come to Crunchyrollalthough this completed the overall narrative.
Crunchyroll’s loss of the 2006 anime isn’t that bad. While it has some positives, the 2006 anime is almost universally maligned for its poor pacing and visuals, though fans miss much of the narrative, Crunchyroll does not add 2006 Destination/overnight anime in its catalog is good because of how subpar the series is. Just have the Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel trilogy is a great option for Crunchy Rolland with your inclusion, there has never been a better time to be a Destination fan.
