Exciting New Ahsoka Theory Reveals the True Origin of the Nightsisters

An exciting one Ahsoka Theory points to the true origins of the Nightsisters, and also teases Star Wars is potentially hiding a secret third clan of Dathomiri. As seen in AhsokaIt is revealed that the Nightsisters originally came from the extragalactic planet of Peridea, a world of myth and legend that seems to hold some major secrets about the Force itself. Combined with some revelations from others Star Wars Media, it has been suggested that the Nightsisters may have a rival clan of Dathomiri that have never been seen before.

in AhsokaMorgan Elsbeth and the Dark Jedi Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati leave the known universe for Peridea to bring Grand Admiral Thrawn out of exile. They were joined by Sabine Wren and followed by Ahsoka Tano, who tried to do the same for Jedi Ezra Bridger (and to prevent Thrawn’s return). On Peridea, it is confirmed that this world was the birthplace and kingdom of the Dathomiri before the Nightsisters move to the Prime. Star Wars Galaxy. However, the Nightsisters aren’t the only confirmed clan of Dathomiri, and their potential ties to the Mortis gods could point to a new clan in the Star Wars Canon.

The Nightsisters appear connected to the Mortis Gods

Statues of the ones on Peridea

As seen during Ahsoka end, Baylan Skoll discovers three massive statues of the Mortis gods carved out of stone. First seen in The Clone WarsThe Mortis Gods are also known as “The Ones”, celestial beings who serve as living anchorites who can influence the flow of the Force itself. While the son represents the dark side of the force, the daughter is of the light. Their father represented the balance, tasked with keeping his children in line in a role he wanted Anakin Skywalker to take on as the prophet’s chosen one.

However, these Clone Wars “Mortis” circle ends with Anakin rejecting the father, and the daughter is killed shortly after she uses her power to raise Ahsoka in her youth. This probably explains why the daughter’s Peridea statue is destroyed as seen at the end of ahsaka, As well as what her convor-owl named Morai has often been seen watching over Tano since her death. Keep all this in mind, The presence of the Mortis god statues on Peridea suggest some close ties with the Nightsisters and the fallen kingdom of the Dathomiri. It is likely that the ancient Dathomiri revered and worshiped the Mortis gods.

Tales of the Jedi introduced another clan

The mountain clan on Dathumir

It is also interesting that the Nightsisters are no longer the only Dathumiri clan in the established Star Wars Canon. As seen in 2024s Tales of the EmpireMorgan Elsbeth’s origins are revealed. This includes her role as one of the few survivors of the Separatists’ massacre of the Nightsisters ordered by Count Dooku and carried out by General Grievous himself.

The reason Morgan survived was thanks to the Mountain Clan, inspired by the group of Dathomiri with the same name from non-canon legends. Appearing to be non-violent and non-confrontational, the Mountain Clan did not worship the dark side of the Force or wield dark magics as the Nightsisters do. However, they still seem to have great power in the force as Dathomiri in their own right. With that in mind, they could also come from Peridea, despite keeping to a creed and belief system that is much more balanced.

This idea can be very interesting when you think about the Mortis Gods, leading to the speculation that different groups of Dathomiri may worship specific Mortis gods in particular. For the Nightsisters, this would naturally be the son, while the mountain clan would logically reward the father, who is like the scales, seeking to end the conflict of his children. If this is true, the process of elimination suggests that there may be a third group of Dathomiri in the Star Wars Galaxy, a clan that worships the daughter and serves the light side of the Force to rival the Nightsisters themselves.

Will Ahsoka & Sabine discover a third clan?

Perhaps connected to the daughter and the light

at the end of AhsokaGrand Admiral Thrawn, his forces and his allied Nightsisters make their way back to the known Star Wars Galaxy (with Ezra sneaking aboard his Star Destroyer). However, Ahsoka Tano and Sabine are now the ones stuck on Peridea, and the same goes for Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati. to this end, There is so much room for Peridea to be further explored in Ahsoka Season 2, especially after Baylan discovers the Mortis God statues, as well as his belief that a presence is calling him.

There was also speculation from School that the Nightsisters’ Great Mothers had allied with Thrawn as they were potentially running from something. Although this led to theories about the monstrous being of chaos and entropy known as Abeloth for Ahsoka Season 2, perhaps the legendary villain connected to the Mortis gods is only part of the story. It is also possible that Peridea may be home to a third clan of Dathumiri who worship the daughter and practice light magics.

It would certainly be exciting to learn what might have happened to the new clan, as well as how they respond to Ahsoka who probably carries elements of the daughter’s energy and spirit in her after their encounter during the Clone Wars. While pure conjecture, it will be fascinating to see what the future holds for this brand new Star Wars Planet that exists outside the established Star Wars Galaxy. A secret, third race of Dathomiri could easily be the tip of the iceberg for what showrunner Dave Philon has planned for Ahsoka Future (Not to mention the rest of the New Republic timeline).

Ahsoka Season 2 is currently in development. A release date has not yet been announced.
