Evil Dead Rise Introduces the franchise’s third Book of the Dead, which unleashes a horrifying new Deadite monster. Lee Cronin Evil Dead Rise is the fifth movie in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead Franchise, and while Evil Dead Rises characters have no direct connections to past characters and events, there is one key uniting factor: the Book of the Dead. In each installment of the franchise, the main character contends with the Cursed Book of the Dead (AKA Naturom Demonto or Necronomicon Ex-Mortis), the book’s unique demonic creatures and their deadite friends and family.
in Evil Dead RiseBeth’s nephew Danny (Morgan Davies) discovers vinyl recordings made by priests and an embodied book under his family’s apartment building; He develops a demonic spirit from the book, which turns his mother and Beth’s older sister, Ellie, into the main Deadite. The new Necronomicon of Evil Dead Rise is the third book of Army Of Darkness
The three books look different, but are similarly diabolical
The third movie in Sam Raimi Evil Dead Series revealed that there are three known volumes of the Book of the Dead. The first, which released the Kandarian demon and had a face-like cover, was discovered by Ash Williams and his friends in a Tennessee cabin in The evil death (1981). Ash continued to argue with the book over the first three Evil Dead movies, with 1992s Army of Darkness Depicting his book is one of three in a medieval cemetery. Evil Dead (2013) then showcases Mia Allen battling the second book, which has a stitched cover and released The Taker of Souls.

Evil Dead RiseDanny’s character finds it in a vault in the buried bank, which a group of priests used to try to contain the book and keep it from being opened again. The vault was filled with Saint Benedict’s medallions and scriptures asking the saint to protect them. It is unclear how the book, which was in 1300 AD England in Army of Darknesss timeline, made his way to an old bank-turned-apartment building before 1923.
Where Dany found the Necronomicon of the Evil Dead
The book of the dead was long buried
Danny finds three vinyl records made by the priests researching the 1923 book, which warned about the Naturom Demontos danger before one of the priests uttered the spell releasing the book’s demon. At one point, an unnamed “priest” tells the guide to destroy the book, shouting “It’s called the Book of the Dead for a reason!“This line is actually Bruce Campbell’s hidden Evil Dead Rise Cameo, with director Lee Cronin being ambiguous as to whether the “priest” is actually Campbell’s Evil Dead Franchise character Ash Williams.

If it’s a time-displaced Ash, he could have tried to travel back in time to find and destroy the other two books he saw in Army of DarknessBut failed to stop the release of Evil Dead Rises demon in 1923. As such, the book sat in a vault for 100 years before an earthquake caused Danny to find it in the apartment building. Since Ash can be in Evil Dead Rise Through a century-old voice cameo, he may appear in a sequel to help Beth and possibly Mia find and attempt to destroy the three books as a team.
Evil Dead Rise’s new book drawings and demon explained
A new type of deadite is revealed in its pages
The blood-stained drawings in Evil Dead Rises Necronomicon are detailed and depict the events that follow during the movie’s Deadite attack. In this book, a woman is killed and becomes the lead deadite under the possession of the demon, who becomes Ali. Another drawing shows blood and other substances being expelled from the mouth of another demon, who turns out to be Eli’s daughter Bridget, who vomits blood and maggots as they become a deadite.
The drawings of the Book of the Dead also show the first woman being dissembled by others, who later comes to life when Deadite Bridget and Danny open Ellie’s stomach when they Prepare to become the multi-limbed ultimate creature depicted in Evil Dead Rises book. Keeping in line with Evil Dead ReeseThe overarching theme of motherhood, the book unleashes a deadite creature that is far different from the franchise’s past undead monsters. This one is controlled by the lead Mother Deadite (Ellie) with the limbs and bodies of other Deadites morphing together to form one giant creature.
like Evil Dead RiseThe demon’s mother was forming the creature, the use of her children as the monster’s other arms and legs called back to the demon’s earlier sentiments that she wanted to keep the whole family together. It means that Evil Dead RiseThe demon preys on families in order to wreak havoc, such as how the deadite Jessica attacks her cousin Teresa in the opening scene/after the movie’s ending.
What Evil Dead Rise’s killer monster really is (and what it wants)
The killer is Ali Dedite made stronger
Director Lee Cronin calls the new monster The Marauder (by Screenanarchy), which is completely different from 2013’s Evil Dead Monster the abomination. Instead of an evil version of the main character as the Abomination, Evil Dead Rises Marauder is an unholy monster that unifies other Deadites into one multi-limbed creature. Ellie, the mother Dedite, leads the monster and uses her Dedite children as an extension of her chaos, making her stronger.
Considering the only Deadites joining the Marauder are Ellie and her kids, it seems Evil Dead Rises monster is fixated on corruption the themes of family unification. That explains why it is primarily fixated on Ellie’s sister Beth, Beth’s unborn child, and Ellie’s daughter Cassie. While Evil Dead Rises monster is motivated by themes of family, the demon still shares the same ultimate goal as the past evils in the franchise: terror through utter chaos.

The Deadites’ witty one-liners certainly add to the chaos, but what the demon really feeds on is fear and horror, such as the quick carnage in the corridor as Evil Dead RiseDeadite Ali kills her neighbors. The terror is exacerbated by brutal insults against Dedite’s targets, which mainly consist of Ellie telling Beth that she is a groupie and will fail to be a mother. Evil Dead RiseThe demon isn’t too picky about which families it will destroy, however, as Beth and Cassie’s escape leads to Jessica’s possession instead.
How the Marauder Compares to Other Evil Dead Deadites
It’s a terrible hybrid, and it’s not completely destroyed by the end of the movie
Evil Dead Rises Marauder is now the Sam Raimi franchise’s most terrifying demonic creature yet, not just because of the grotesque body horror used to create it, but also because of the difficulty in destroying it. Like a jewel Evil Dead Easter egg, Beth – much like Ash and Mia – had to use a chainsaw to cut through the killer’s limbs and push it through a woodchipper in order to (temporarily) stop his reign of terror. Even still, the demon was not dispelled on the destruction of the Marauder, and found a new host less than a day later.
The ending of Evil Dead Rise suggests that the terror of the Marauder will only grow and spread in a sequel.
The demonic spirit stayed in the apartment building parking garage after Beth and Cassie left, where it then attacked and possessed Jessica. Bring Evil Dead Rise Coming full circle, Jessica the Deadite is seen in the opening scene of the movie, where she decapitates her boyfriend and scalps her cousin Teresa. Evil Dead RiseThe ending suggests that the terror of the Marauder will only grow and spread in a sequel, with no indication of how characters like Beth, Ash and Mia can stop the chaos of the demons for good.
