With Act 2 of Destiny 2Episode: Revenant on the horizon, the developers at Bungie have some exciting news about the game’s next act. Despite the changes that arrived in Revenant: Act 1, the insignificant content that Act 1 contained was less than impressive; however, there is still hope for Act 2 and beyond. The Act 2 live stream lasted about an hour of news about the next act’s activities, weapons, and more.
For those who haven’t caught up with Act 1, Episode: Revenant focuses on yet another Echo remnant of the Witness, this time in the hands of the Scorned, Fikrul. Still loyal to the Uldren Sov he once knew, Fikrul is using the power of the Echo to transform living Eliksni into Contempt, a process previously only possible using dead Eliksni. The Guardian teams up with Eido and Mithrax to stop Fikrul and save the Eliksni of House Light from Fikrul’s corruption. Act 2 will continue this story, adding a bunch of new content to look forward to.
Everything coming in Revenant: Act 2
Can the new repeatable activity succeed where the coil failed?
It is certainly true that one of the Destination Historically, the team’s biggest weakness has been creating a repeatable seasonal activity that doesn’t make you want to pull your teeth, and the Contest of Elders activity is their newest effort. This activity returns Guardians to the Prison of Eldersagain following the whims of the Warden Servitor. Associate designer Noah Lee explained on the live stream at BungieTwitch page that is a “more roguelike activities“, and that”one of our design goals is we wanted to make it as variable as possible.”
Of course, developers at Bungie know that seasonal activities are becoming obsolete, but whether Contest of Elders fixes this issue remains to be seen. Now, there’s only so much that can be done to keep Guardians from getting bored, but The addition of random encounters, added modifiers, and new mechanics should keep things fresh for a little longer than in previous seasons. The goal, Lee explained, is to prevent the activity from becoming too predictable, as this leads to boredom and general dissatisfaction among players.
Another interesting improvement to the Reel is that the Contest of Elders activity will not maintain traditional scoring like the Reel did. Instead of accumulating points through items dropped during the activity, instead, players maintain an inactive director approval rating while playing. The higher the rank, the more items will be awarded at the end of the activity. Additionally, higher ranked squads will sometimes be able to skip encounters, allowing them to complete their runs and collect items faster.
The seniors competition is not the only new feature to be anticipated
Along with the new activity come some shiny new toys
Along with the Contest of Elders come two new seasonal weapons: an Arc sniper-framed SMG called Noxious Vetiver and a Void sniper-framed shotgun called Scavenger’s Fate. Both weapons showed promising results in the stream, allowing them both to be relevant in PvE and PvP. Additionally, Gridskipper from Season of the Splicer will return to the loot pool. Keep an eye out for these new weapons as you dive into the Contest of the Elders.
Super changes are also coming in Act 2, which will bring a pretty significant buff to roaming Supers in PvE. Roaming Supers are those that last a short time, like Stormtrance and Song of Flame. These Supers will charge at a rate two to three times faster than they currently doallowing them to be used more frequently rather than just in boss encounters.
Taylor Bjorndahl, associate weapons designer, explained that they want roaming supers to feel more like an integrated part of the Guardian’s kit. At the moment, most players will keep their Super until “I really need this“rather than using it to clear a room, and that seems to be the antithesis of what the developers are looking for. With more Super uptime, they hope players will be more encouraged to use Supers when overcoming difficult Tournament encounters, even if they aren’t boss fights.
Destiny Fashion continues to impress
With dawn coming, look your best for your vacation
Dawn is coming, and the holidays have arrived with the new cosmetics available in Revenant: Act 2. The first is a street fighter collaboration that includes ghost shells, emotes, universal ornaments and more. All of this will be available in the Eververse store along with two new armor sets. One of them is the Dawning set for the year, which is “celestial dragon“themed, and the other one is adorable”Doki Doki“Magic girl themed set. The Dawning and Magic Girl sets will be available for Bright Dust, and if the Festival of the Lost set prices were any indication, they should cost 6,000 Bright Dust for the complete set.
Outside of cosmetics, there will also be some changes to the Dawning event itself, which begins on December 10th. Players will see higher cookie ingredient drop rates across the board, as well as some new and returning Dawn weapons to collect. Finally, Strange Coins will now drop when delivering cookies to vendors, meaning that if players haven’t already done so, they will be able to pick up Xur’s Xurfboard skimmer, which can be used until Act 3, which is dropping in January.
A Glimpse of Revenant: Act 3
While there isn’t an Act 3 live stream, there is new content coming
Episode Act 3: Revenant will begin rebooting on January 7, 2025and since it falls right after the holidays and New Year’s, there will be no live stream to celebrate its release. Instead, the developers included a tidbit about the act in the Act 2 stream. Specifically, they introduced the new season’s exotic, Slayer’s Fang.
Slayer’s Fang is a Void shotgun that has an interesting mechanic: Your shots spread into smaller projectiles, and on kill, these projectiles gain a bit of smart tracking. Additionally, kills will grant truesight, making this weapon a scourge in the Crucible. To see him in action, players can check out the clip above, from BungieTwitch stream.
Slayer’s Fang can be obtained through the new exotic mission this will happen with Act 3. Bungie didn’t reveal the name in the stream as it’s a pretty significant story spoiler, but the developers assured watchers that there will be plenty of secrets and puzzles in this new quest. This should satisfy those invested in the lore, as well as players who enjoyed running Encore: Overture to upgrade Choir of One.
Overall, there are a few things to look forward to in the next act of Destiny 2even for the most tired players. While the community is pretty tough on Bungie for the choices it’s making, the live streams are at least an acknowledgment that the developers only listen to some of the complaints that are aired. While Revenant: Act 3 is unlikely to save the game, there are still fun things on the horizon for Guardians.
