Everything we know about the manga's return in 2025

THE Dragon Ball Super The manga went on an indefinite hiatus following the passing of creator and manga legend Akira Toriyama. Leaving the story between arcs, fans were jumping with anticipation at the prospect of uncovering the mystery behind Black Frieza. Unfortunately, the rupture continued for much longer than anticipated, largely due to a dispute over manga rights. The long wait is finally over, however, as Dragon Ball Super is set to return in 2025 with an all-new special chapter.

Announced at Jump Festa 2025, along with a new illustration of Black Frieza by series artist Toyotarou, Dragon Ball SuperThe long hiatus will finally end on February 20, 2025. No official word has been given on whether the manga will return to its regular monthly release schedule, though a new chapter of any kind would bode well for the overall health of the series moving forward.

Dragon ball has an uneven story without Akira Toriyama at the helm, although it appears that the new chapter will mark the beginning of the next phase of the franchise without the manga master. Toyotarou worked alongside Toriyama throughout the Dragon Ball Superis underway, and if there was anyone qualified to continue the work, it would be him. Little has been revealed about the manga's return, although there are some details that Dragon ball fans will want to know.

Dragon Ball Super is taking Goten and Trunks on a new adventure

The two half-Saiyans will be featured in the return of the series

Dragon Ball SuperThe last chapter before the strike was healthy which features a fight between Earth's greatest fighters on Beerus' planet, before everyone goes to pick Pan up from school. The entry is designed as a celebration of Akira Toriyama's characters and the world he created. However, some plot elements, such as Black Frieza, hung over the story. Unfortunately, it looks like fans will have to wait a little longer for the series to explore these ideas further, as the next one-shot will follow Goten and Trunks in the lead roles.

The two hybrid Saiyans played crucial roles in the Dragon ballof the Majin Buu Saga, introducing fusion into the franchise and fighting the main villain. They have also claimed leading roles in several films such as Broly – Second Coming, Bio-Brolyand Wrath of the Dragon. However, when Dragon Ball Super it started, it became clear relatively quickly that the two would be relegated to background charactersand both remained that way until the manga adaptation of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Now, it looks like Goten and Trunks will return to the spotlight for the manga's next one-shot chapter, and will reveal how the latter began to admire superheroes. Fans have long criticized the series for not utilizing the now-teenage wrestlers in meaningful roles since its debut, and the manga seems poised to address those complaints. Goten and Trunks have only fought briefly since they finally grew up and now they have the opportunity to show what they are capable of.

What can fans expect from the next One-Shot?

There are several directions the next chapter could take

Gotenks in Dragon Ball

Given the promotional image for the next chapter, along with the focus on Goten, Trunks, and superheroes, it's likely that the one-shot will be a side story set before or during the manga Superhero adaptation. The parts of the arc that focused on the two young half-Saiyans at school were quite unique to Dragon balland one more life scenario could be in the plans for the next entry.

While a lower energy return probably isn't what fans are looking for after the long break, the manga may want to take this opportunity to feel a return without Akira Toriyama overseeing the series. It wouldn't be Dragon ball without any action, however, and the possibility that Teenage Gotenks may finally appear is no longer far-fetched. The mention of a hero inspiring Trunks is also similar to the events of Dragon Ball Zof Wrath of the Dragonand the chapter may want to loosely incorporate Tapion's story into the series' canon.

There are countless different directions the next one-shot could take, but with Goten and Trunks in the lead roles, the story will certainly be new. It likely won't kick off the newest arc due to its supposed placement in the timeline, though some sort of announcement about the series' full syllabus is a very real possibility when the chapter releases in February.

Dragon Ball's future is still uncertain without Akira Toriyama

THE Dragon Ball Super the manga was interrupted shortly before a new arc could begin, although the setup was quite promising. Black Frieza appeared and humiliated Goku and Vegeta, before quickly taking off, never to be seen again. And with the Superhero In the section of the series that reintroduces Gohan and Piccolo to relevance, the core team of fighters gained powerful new weapons to combat the consistently evil space dictator. Broly, arguably the most dangerous fighter in the series, is also training on Beerus' planet and could become a very prominent warrior in the upcoming battles.

Dragon Ball Super There's still a little story to telldespite Toriyama no longer being around to direct his events. Naming Frieza as the manga's final villain could end the series well, closing the current chapter of Dragon ball story with its main Saiyans once again overcoming the iconic villain. Many fans would also like to see an entirely new villain introduced into the franchise, and Super could have Frieza fighting on the side of good once again to close himself.

The possibilities are endless, although Dragon Ball Super will have to return completely before any plot progression can be made. However, the upcoming one-shot will be the first entry in the franchise without the supervision of Akira Toriyama, and will be a first glimpse of where the franchise could go without its creator. Fans won't have to wait much longer for the series' return and won't want to miss its newest adventure in February 2025.

Dragon Ball Super is a sequel to the original Dragon Ball series, as well as the fan-favorite Dragon Ball Z anime. Dragon Ball Super is set ten years after Majin Buu's defeat and follows Goku and his friends on new adventures. Just like its predecessors, Dragon Ball Super was praised throughout its 131 episodes.
