This non-linear narrative of Commander Cody’s life makes his story unique and, in many ways, very tragic. Throughout the entire Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, audiences know that Cody will eventually have to betray Obi-Wan due to his inhibitor chip, despite how loyal he is to his Jedi general and his fellow clone troopers.
When that moment comes Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sithhowever, he comes and goes, and Cody is not seen again after the story leaves Utapau. This left Cody Star Wars fate is shrouded in mystery, though some recent properties have at least begun to address what happens to Obi-Wan’s most trusted soldier. Cody remained loyal to the Empire after Order 66

Unlike members of Clone Force 99 and Captain Rex, whose chips were not activated or were removed shortly after Order 66 was enacted, Cody remained loyal to the Galactic Empire and was forced to serve as a commander within its forces. Cody traded his iconic yellow-painted armor for gray, though he preserved many, if not all, of the same markings. It is not known exactly what Cody was doing in the name of the Empire, but if Star Wars: The Bad Batch It’s something to leave, he was probably quelling riots and reclaiming lost worlds.
The effects of Cody’s inhibitor chip diminished over time
He was forced to face his own actions
Cody, however, was not permanently blind to what he was doing and what he had done at the time Order 66 was enacted. Like many of the clones seen in The bad lotthe effects of his inhibitor chip wore off over time and Cody has been forced to reckon with his actions over the last year or so that has passed since the end of the Clone Wars.. This is something he does in real time in The bad lot Season 2, when he embarks on a mission with Crosshair, who, unlike his brothers, remains loyal to the Empire.
The inciting incident that makes Cody really question his place within the Empire happens in this episode. Cody and Crosshair are tasked with a mission to retake a breakaway world for the Empire, as the officers the Empire initially sent were overruled and captured by the real world leadership. After fighting their droids, Cody and Crosshair have a face-to-face confrontation with this leader, and Cody asks that there be no more bloodshed. Instead, the Empire demands that she be killed and Crosshair follows the directive.
Without his chip influencing his every action, Cody is forced to face this tragic moment as it truly is. Cody refused to carry out the Imperial officer’s order, which caused Crosshair to pick up the slack. This was the biggest evidence that Cody’s chip was no longer working like it used to.; Cody was clearly very upset about what happened and it led him to make a crucial decision.
Cody disappeared after his scoped mission
He refused to serve the Empire any longer
Cody did not stay to serve the Empire after this mission. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Cody has disappeared, defecting and fleeing the Empire he was forced to serve. Unfortunately, that’s where his story ends. Star Wars canon as of now, though there are certainly opportunities for more to be revealed about his fate. However The bad lot Season 3 made it clear that Cody didn’t immediately join Rex’s clone rebellion, it’s not too late for that to happen.
No new animation Star Wars TV shows still in the launch phase, it has been popularly theorized that a new series could focus on the rebellion of Rex’s clones, which would fill in the gaps in the stories of characters like Rex himself, Gregor, Wolffe, Echo, and potentially Cody.. It would be exciting to see Cody team up with these comrades again, but there’s also another possibility of where Cody could appear next, and that would be a return to his original media type.
Cody was part of the first drafts of Obi Wan Kenobi TV show, especially when it was still planned as a film trilogy. Although Cody and his storyline were unfortunately cut from the series, this still means that Cody intends to be alive at that moment and reconnect with Obi-Wan at some point. Now that conversations are happening to Obi Wan Kenobi Season 2, it is possible that Cody will be part of this series again. Whatever the case, Cody Star Wars the story is far from over and we hope more about his fate is revealed.
