Everything Star Wars Revealed About the Lost “Gems of the Old Republic”

Notice! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 4Star Wars introduced the “Jewels of the Old Republic”, and the second half of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew the first season will certainly reveal more about these mysterious planets. Although the Old Republic era had countless stories and a rich history in the original Star Wars Expanded Universe, now known as “Legends”, this period has not been explored in the canon. This makes any knowledge of the Old Republic a welcome addition to new Star Wars movies and TV shows.

Skeleton CrewThe main focus so far has been its characters and their quest to return home, but the underlying mystery of Attin and its sister planets is fascinating. While little concrete information has been confirmed, there's enough to see that the story is shaping up to be a major payoff that will drastically affect the characters. It also opens up several possibilities for Old Republic Jewels to play a role in future Star Wars projects.

The jewels of the old republic were protected planets

Prosperous societies hidden from prying eyes

One of the most notable revelations about Attin is that he is isolated from the rest of the galaxy. When Wim and his friends find a hidden ship and accidentally blast off into hyperspace, they notice that they have never seen stars before, as their planet is surrounded by a barrier that makes it impossible for outsiders to find them. It is also prohibited to leave Attinand the reason is implied a few episodes later.

All but one of the Old Republic's jewels were lost

They were destroyed for unknown reasons

As the heroes continue their quest to return home, they learn the legends of their home planet and its connected systems. It is implied that all other Jewels of the Old Republic were destroyed in ancient times.making Attin the last surviving civilization. This would explain why the people of Attin chose to remain hidden for so long and forbade anyone from leaving to risk further destruction.

It seems like all the Old Republic gems have the same layout

Wim and the others recognize Attin's design

Although it was established that the Old Republic Gems were connected, it still came as a surprise when it was revealed that each planet appeared to have the exact same design for cities. This means that each world the characters visit will be a variant of the last one.with the same basic layout, but with different history and people. It's an ironic scenario, since the original founders intended each planet to look identical.

This raises several questions about why the Old Republic Gems were designed to look exactly the same. The simple answer is that following the same blueprint would be the most efficient way to quickly set up multiple colonies, especially if it was done with the help of droids. However, perhaps the founders recognized they were in danger and sought redundancy to ensure that at least one version of their civilization would survive.

In Achran fell into war

The exact opposite of Attin

The first Jewel of the Old Republic the characters visit is At Achrann, which is completely different from Attin. While At Attin there is a prosperous society, without violence or conflictThe people of At Achrann are constantly at war for resources. This caused leaders to treat children as adults, expecting them to become soldiers to defend their respective clans.

This is one aspect that At Achran has in common with Attin, despite their superficial differences. Both societies place enormous pressure on children to excel in their responsibilitieswhether contributing to the “great work” on Attin or to the war with rival clans on At Achrann. It reveals a possible shared philosophy that goes back to their common ancestry, which the remaining episodes will explore in more detail.

Attin is seen as a legendary and lost treasure planet

One the pirates are eager to find

Because Attin has been isolated for so long, most people believe it is a myth. However, legends say that Attin is a treasure planet, although what that treasure is has not yet been revealed. Whatever it is Star Wars treasure is likely to be one of the final revelations when the heroes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew find your way home.
