Bernard finally takes Lukas to the IT vault in Silo episode 7 of season 2, giving him access to a forbidden room that only a few people have seen in the past. In the original by Hugh Howey Silo books, Lukas Kyle becomes Bernard's shadow shortly after Juliette leaves Silo 18. Because of this, it was surprising that the show took significant creative liberties in portraying Judge Meadows as Bernard's first choice to become his potential successor. . Fortunately, the Apple TV+ sci-fi series gradually returned to the original story, portraying Lukas as Bernard's new shadow.
Despite feeling betrayed by his employee in Silo Season 1 and sending him to the mines, Bernard trusts Lukas in Season 2. He realizes that even though Lukas has been disloyal to him in the past, he would be grateful if he finished his sentence in the mines and shadowed him. Bernard is also impressed by Lukas' ability to embrace his curiosity and use his imagination to find answers to the exciting mysteries of his world. Therefore, he makes him his shadow and takes him to the mysterious Vault in IT, where he waits for Lukas to decode Quinn's cryptic letter.
Accommodation
Allowing the shadow to live inside the vault
Moments after Bernard and Lukas enter the Vault, Bernard mentions that it has quarters with decent food and comfortable beds. This reveals that in addition to containing valuable resources for learning about Silo 18 and the world they live in, the Vault also has space to accommodate many people for a long period of time. Citizens appointed as shadows of the mayor can live inside the Vault for as long as they want and consume as much information as they want.
Just like Silo 18, Silo 17 is also expected to have living quarters complete with beds, allowing Solo to live a fairly comfortable life while remaining locked inside Silo 17's vault for decades.
During their stay, the shadows also have access to a huge supply of food and water. This explains how Solo managed to survive in Silo 17 without ever leaving the vault. It also reveals where Solo was getting all the food for Juliette in Silo initial episodes of season 2. Just like Silo 18, Silo 17 is also expected to have living quarters complete with beds, allowing Solo to live a fairly comfortable life while remaining locked inside Silo 17's vault for decades.
Variety of artifacts
There are many paintings, antique vases and sculptures on the walls of the vault
Soon after Lukas Kyle enters the Vault, he finds himself surrounded by a multitude of artifacts, including paintings, vases, and sculptures, each seemingly telling a story about humanity's forgotten past. The walls of the Vault are lined with multiple shelves and glass display cases, filled with objects that once had cultural or archaeological significance to humanity. Although Lukas' goal is to focus solely on reading the material and finding a way to decode Salvador Quinn's letter, it is intriguing how the creators of the silos decided to store so much of human history in the Vault.
Since there are a total of 50 silos, it's hard not to be curious about whether each silo has the same artifacts or whether they all contain different collections. The Apple TV+ sci-fi show previously established that any object that reveals the truth about humanity's life before the construction of the silos is generally considered a red-tier forbidden relic because it can inspire ideas of rebellion and freedom. This raises questions about how Bernard expects his shadows to maintain their loyalty after learning so much about the world's fascinating history.
Printed and electronic copies of thousands of books
Lukas has access to an abundance of information
Since most ordinary citizens of Silo 18 have never had access to many books, Lukas is impressed by the sheer quantity of books on the Vault's shelves. To Lukas' surprise, Bernard also shows him a tablet and reveals that it houses an extensive digital library. When Lukas feels overwhelmed by the amount of resources he has at his fingertips and struggles to understand where to start, Bernard helps him by showing him how he can command the tablet to find relevant books.
Given that Lukas' sole purpose is to decode Quinn's letter, he will only need books that revolve around cryptography and ciphers. However, with so many books stored within the Vault, Bernard's new shadow appears to have access to information on a multitude of topics. The sheer number of books in the vault reveals how characters like Solo and Meadows know so much about the outside world. and life before silos. Meadows must have read a lot during his tenure as shadow, and Solo must also have spent almost all of his days consuming information while remaining locked away in his Vault.
The Legacy
Legacy has AI elements
A hologram appears on a transparent screen in the Vault and checks in and greets Lukas before Bernard explains other aspects of the room to him. Moments later, Bernard also reveals that Lukas just needs to ask “Legacy” one question on the tablet, and he will present him with all the information he needs. When mechanics launch a rocket at Silo In episode 7 of season 2, Legacy raises an alarm and tells Bernard that a “Delta event” is happening in his Silo.

Before Meadows died in a previous Silo episode, Bernard showed her a VR headset and asked if she used it when “sat down with the Legate.“ All of these references to the Legacy and its functions in the Silo suggest that it is some form of AI. Although its larger implications will likely be revealed in Silo In future Season 2 episodes, the presence of cutting-edge technology like Legacy confirms how the series' current timeline is set hundreds of years in the future.
Equipment to repair and sustain Vault technology
Maintaining the same technology for over 300 years requires constant maintenance
When showing Lukas the Vault, Bernard mentions in the Silo season 2 episode that he might not find much information about the history of the silos. He reveals that although Legacy claims the silos were built 352 years ago, it reveals nothing about the creators' purpose or plan. Because cutting-edge technologies like the Legacy, tablet, and Vault screens have remained functional for more than three centuries after Silo 18's creation, the IT room must also have sufficient equipment, including batteries and replacement products, to support such systems. advanced.
