There are many pop and rock songs played in Sing 2But not every song in the animated film can be the best. After the success of her talent show in Sing, Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) and his team of performers – Johnny (Taron Egerton), Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), Meena (Tori Kelly), Ash (Scarlett Johansson), Gunter (Nick Kroll) and more – are heading to the big leagues . When Buster lies to brash entertainment mogul Mr. Crystal (Bobby Cannavale) about the big, reclusive Clay Calloway (Bono) signing on to the show, the team ends up in trouble as they try to get the high-profile entertainer to transform. your lies come true.
Just like its predecessor, Sing 2 is full of musical numbers from different genres, all performed by a group of misfit animals. From Dionne Warwick's classics to Ariana Grande's hits, there's sure to be a song for every musical taste. It's difficult to rank the great songs of Sing 2 with an incredible cast of talent behind them, but there are a few songs on Sing 2 soundtrack that definitely stands out from the rest. The best part of each song in Sing 2 it's the amount of heart that's obvious in every note.
Stuck in a moment you can't get out of
Sung by Ash
Compared to the colorful, fast-paced, and exciting musical numbers in the rest of the film, “Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out of” can feel a little lackluster. However, the song has incredible emotional meaning. Clay Calloway, played by an emotional Bono from the band U2, has been a recluse for the past 15 years, while the loss of his muse and wife, Ruby, has stripped him of the beauty of music.
As Ash sits on her porch and plays her own music with a soulful acoustic melody, the power of Clay's love and pain on the porch next to her is palpable. It's also nice to have a simplified version of a song where the performer's voice shines. This is actually a great song for Scarlet Johannson's voice, and she does a great job with the version the film presents. Although the entire song isn't played because Clay interrupts his singing, it's still an emotionally powerful moment.
Heads will roll
Sung by Ash
In both Sing films, there are songs that appear only in brief excerpts. It's unclear whether this is because there was no budget to use the full song, there was just a desire to include even more music. As a result, this particular song does not appear in its entirety.
“Heads Will Roll” is only a brief scene on the scale of the film, but it gives the audience a look at what Ash has been up to since the first film. Seeing Ash singing this Yeah Yeah Yeahs hit to an adoring crowd proves that she's still firmly in her identity as a fun, powerful rocker while staying true to herself. Despite his success, “Heads Will Roll” proves that Ash hasn't changed at all. It's a shame that the audience (who watch the film, not the crowd in the film) don't get to hear more of his version.
Let's go crazy
Sung by Meena, Johnny, Gunter and Rosita
Sing 2The opening scene of is a joint performance of Prince's “Let's Go Crazy”. Set in an extremely colorful setting Alice in Wonderlandinspired by costumes, this fun number was the perfect song to start the film. It initially feels like a fantasy sequel before it becomes more obvious that (most of) the cast of characters from the first film are living out their acting dreams.
Audiences can see their beloved characters from the very first Sing film in his true element, performing to a packed crowd in his restored theater. “Let's go crazy” too shows how perfectly this group works as a wholeand that many of them remained together during the break between films. Ash may be missing from the group initially, but this style is definitely more Broadway than hers, so it makes sense that she wouldn't be part of the act. It's a great energetic start to the film.
I say a little prayer
Sung by Meena and Alfonso
In the first film, Meena didn't have the courage to audition for Buster Moon, and now they are great friends as she stars in shows for her project. Tori Kelly is one of the prominent voices in Sing films, so it's no surprise that any song performed by her as Meena would be fantasticand this is a great showcase of Meena's imagination and Kelly's talent.
Meena has come a long way since her first Sing in terms of your confidence. Although she (mostly) overcame her stage fright, “I Say a Little Prayer” gives the audience a little insight into how she fares. Instead of singing along with her duet partner, Darius (voiced by Eric Andre), Meena imagines the handsome ice cream vendor across the street, Alfonso (Pharell Williams), performing alongside her. Dionne Warwick's number is a fun addition to the film, and seeing Meena gain the confidence to say hello to her crush once the song ends is really touching.
Where the streets have no name
Sung by Gunter, Rosita, Ash, Meena and Johnny
This is one of the cases Sing 2 having an almost too short musical number, but the little tease the audience gets makes it worth it. It is very rare for the entire main cast to perform together, as each character typically has their own solo songs. It's a nice change from the usual format.
Although the scene may be brief, “Where The Streets Have No Name” gave the audience the opportunity to hear a large portion of the cast singing in beautifully orchestrated harmony. The song prioritizes the vocals, allowing the true talent of this cast to really shine in just a few brief moments. While U2's classic song didn't get the group into the show the way they had hoped, their vocals were impressive enough to make the short scene truly memorable.
There's nothing holding me back
Sung by Johnny
'There's Nothing Holding Me Back' isn't as flashy as some of the team's performancesbut the music is equally fun. In fact, it's one of the few times that a song not performed as part of one of the shows outperforms many of the film's other musical numbers. Johnny is infectious in this number, and it's no wonder the song earned him a dance coach.
The upbeat rhythm catches the attention of the diners around him when Johnny starts singing in the middle of a restaurant, and the fact that the radio he's singing to is silent in the background allows Egerton's vocals to really shine on their own. during the chorus. of this song by Shawn Mendes. The lyrics also suit Johnny's character, as he is a young man full of talent, potential and desire to pursue his dreams without restrictions.
I still haven't found what I'm looking for
Sung by Ash and Clay Calloway
This particular song was used as a teaser in the film's trailers, with Ash's moment alone on stage at the beginning being used to show what was to come without revealing any of the plot. It's an interesting choice to preview the film, as it ends up spoiling what's to come in the story, but it actually gives Ash a beautiful rockstar moment – and then, a moment to realize that his musical hero hasn't completely given up after all.
While “I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For” may not be as upbeat or fun as some of the other top-notch songs, the emotion the song carries is palpable. Like Clay Calloway's return to performing, the moment involves much more than just the music itself. Hearing the entire arena sing the lyrics to his song confirms that Clay's fans have not forgotten him in his absence and that the song may have had meaning again after the loss of his wife. Scarlett Johansson's performance as Ash in her moving solo introduction is also something that shouldn't be forgotten.
Free yourself
Sung by Rosita (and Gunter)
“Break Free” is a testament to everything that Rosita’s character represents. Although Rosita is too scared to jump off the ledge at the beginning of the film, she doesn't hesitate to take the leap when someone she cares about needs her. Rosita's entire character arc has been about breaking through – overcoming the weight of expectations, her insecurities and her fears, all to achieve her dream of being an artist. Reese Witherspoon may not have the strongest vocals in the cast, but her enthusiasm for music helps sell the character's story.
After watching Rosita struggle with her performance throughout Sing 2Seeing her sing Ariana Grande's song with so much confidence is truly gratifying for the audience. The song proves how much she has grown since the first film where she was afraid to dance without precise step instructions. Now, not only is she openly dancing on stage in front of a large audience, but she is also jumping off the stage with a harness and saving Buster Moon's life.
A sky full of stars
Sung by Johnny
“A Sky Full of Stars” receives a standing ovation in Sing 2and for good reason. In addition to Egerton's strong vocals, the song is a perfect representation of Johnny's character in both films. Johnny's journey was about learning to do things his way. When choreographer Klaus Kickenklober pressures and degrades him, he doesn't give up; he works himself to the bone with Nooshy to learn his own choreography and easily holds his own when Klaus challenges him on stage in front of the crowd without any warning.
It also helps that the film decides to take a different approach. Although Johnny may start out on the piano, there is a percussive break that makes the song even more intense and works towards its story. The fast pace of Coldplay's music, the combat choreography and the echo of the war drums make “A Sky Full of Stars” stand out from the rest of the songs in Sing 2.
It could have been me
Sung by Porsha
“Could Have Been Me” is one of the jewels in the musical crown of Sing 2. The song is the culmination of Porsha's quest for independence from her authoritarian father. Disobeying Mr. Crystal to join Buster Moon and crew in putting on their show was Porsha's first stand-up, growing from the spoiled brat she was at the beginning of the film to a strong woman in her own right.
Porsha is having so much fun as she performs acrobatics on stage and hits every perfect note. It's actually a cathartic number, considering audiences probably didn't like the character in her introduction. Combining an army of tap-dancing tarsiers as Porsha's backup singers (and luminaries) with Halsey's emotional vocals easily puts “Could Have Been Me” as the best song of Sing 2.
