When every song on the Smile 2 soundtrack plays in the movie
Smile 2 Has five songs sung by Naomi Scott
Graved you by Naomi Scott: Sung by the film’s star Naomi Scott, “Grieved You” is the first of many original tracks that appear in Smile 2. The song plays as a music video shortly after the film’s opening sequence. It also serves as an introduction for the audience to Skye Riley. The track is apparently one of her big hits from before her accident, and showcases how the character used to look. The imagery of the video, which shows Riley parading around bodies under white sheets, could be seen as a dark portent for the kind of events that soon befall the young woman.
Uh Huh by Belaganas: “Uh Huh” from the Belaganas appears in a minor way in Smile 2. The song is the track that Riley listens to after her appearance on Drew Barrymore’s show. Skye uses it to drown out the noise around her, which also helps establish the version of New York City that appears in the film.
New Brain by Naomi Scott: “New Brain” plays early Smile 2and is used to show the kind of work that goes into preparing for the dance routines that make up a lot of Sky’s shows. The rehearsal is good overall, but also highlights the injury Skye suffered and sets her up to seek out Lewis for Vicodin – which in turn exposes her to the entity and sets up the film’s plot. The dance rehearsal later is recreated by the entity as a form of tormenting Skye in her apartment, giving the song title a darker meaning.
Blood on White Satin by Naomi Scott: “Blood on White Satin” is one of the bigger performances of Smile 2. During a larger rehearsal before her concert, Skye and some of her dancers perform a run of “Blood on White Satin” on stage. It’s a great show number that highlights her talents. However, the moment also highlights just how dangerous the entity is, as it uses the concert and the subsequent pressure it causes on Skye to continue to push her to the breaking point.
Related
Just My Name by Naomi Scott: compared to the rest of Smile 2s song, “Just My Name” is a much sadder and understated song. Coming in a moment of self-reflection for Skye, the young woman sits in her apartment and opens up her piano to sing a song from her old journal. With a piano playing alongside Scott’s vocals, this is one of the film’s more soulful songs. The backing synths and chorus also take on a harder edge when one considers that they may represent the growing presence of the entity in her head.
I hope the sun explodes today through the hex dispensers: “I hope the sun explodes today” is one of the few songs in Smile 2 Not actually credited to Skye Riley. Instead, the Hex Dispensers song plays as Skye enters a small bar looking for Maurice and his advice on how to escape the entity. The different tone and style of the song separates it from the rest of the tracks in the film.
Death of Me by Naomi Scott: “Death of Me” plays at the end of Smile 2. It’s a darkly ironic track, as it plays against the backdrop of Skye (completely taken over by the entity) killing herself with her microphone. The song’s lyrics take on a dark secondary meaning as a result, with the pop track transforming to serve as a dark reflection of the film’s heart, which quietly also plays into a fan theory about Smile 2.
