Samara weaving has carved a niche for herself in Hollywood as an A-list scream queen by appearing in several recent acclaimed horror movies, including 2024’s Azrael. After eight years as an actor, Weaving entered the horror genre with 2017’s The babysitter. Although she has landed dramatic roles in award winning movies like 2017’s Three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri and 2022s babylon Much of Weaving’s filmography involves the horror and thriller genre. The talented actress’ horror resume is not limited to films, as she starred in season 1 of Starz’s Ash vs As Heather, a hiker who must survive a demonic onslaught with the main characters. The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020)
Samara weaving as B
Reprising her role from the first installment in 2017, Weaving returned as Bee in the horror comedy The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Set two years after the original, the film sees new characters arise as members of a satanic cult and protagonist Cole (Juda Lewis) must once again be the hero. Weaving doesn’t appear until the end of the movie and gets redemption when she helps Cole and Phoebe, played by fellow horror movie star Jenna Ortega, defeat the evil in the end. Although the satanic cult and violence make this a horror film, it features comedic elements that keep it lighthearted throughout.
While the movie delivers on the fun aspects it promises, The Babysitter: Killer Queen is the only horror film with Weaving that did not receive strong criticism. Reviews are mixed and it has a low score of only 22 on Metacritic. There is also the absence of weaving, which only appears in the climax and connects her relationship with Cole to the one she has with Phoebe. Even so, the movie is loved by fans of the original and it’s notable to see Weaving and fellow rising scream queen Ortega share the screen.

Mayhem (2017)
Samara Weaving as Melanie Cross
Released just one month after Weaving’s horror movie debut in The babysitter, Mayhem You are portraying a completely different character. The film blends scares with action and comedy and takes place in a consulting firm when a virus breaks out that sends everyone into a violent rage. Weaving plays Melanie Cross, a desperate woman who is denied help on her loan and teams up with recently fired employee Derek (Steven Yeun in one of his best movies) to get revenge. The premise is similar to movies like The Belko Experiment And Office uprising But was better received than one of the films.
The gory movie holds an impressive 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its modern action, but it doesn’t lean into the horror elements like some of Weaving’s other projects. The uncontrollable rage that the characters experience can be terrifying on its own and there are some harrowing scenes with a lot of blood, but Mayhem Keeps things light enough that it’s not the scariest of films. Melanie is an important role in Weaving’s career, as she is a lovable character designed to be rooted for, much like the unrecognizable part of Weaving. Nine perfect strangers, And unlike B. In The babysitter.

Azrael (2024)
Samara Weaving as Azrael
2024s Azrael May have some of Weaving´s finest work as a horror actress, as the entire movie is basically dialogue free. She plays a mute survivor in a post-apocalyptic story set after the biblical rapture, and gets to really show her range as both a terror-stricken ultimate girl and a vengeful action hero. Given that her character has had her vocal cords surgically removed, Weaving is forced to convey fear, rage and love entirely with her eyes and physical movement, which of course she does with aplomb.
Samara Weaving shines in the lead role, proving that even a few years into her horror career, she’s at the top of her game as an ultimate girl and scream queen.
Azrael was sitting at a 71% on Rotten tomatoes‘ Tomatometer, and as a relatively low-budget movie ($12 million) it may be able to turn a profit at the box office. The box office total and critical ratings may not reflect its ranking here, however Azrael is one of the largest showcases for Samara weaving on the list. She really shines in the lead role, and proves that even a few years into her horror career, she is at the top of her game as an ultimate girl and scream queen.

The Babysitter (2017)
Samara weaving as B
Netflix The babysitter Found more success than its eventual sequel, as it received stronger reviews from critics and sits at 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. The horror comedy centers on Judah (Lewis), a kid who has a crush on his babysitter Bee (Weaving) only to catch her and her friends in the act of killing someone as a sacrifice to a satanic cult before he becomes their next target. Weaving may not play the protagonist, but she gets nearly as much screen time and has memorable scenes with Bella Thorne and Robbie Amell before revealing herself as the villain, turning the film on its head.
McG’s direction is praised while Weaving manages to make Bee charming and evil. Although changes were made to the original Babysitter Script, it is still praised for the gore and action left behind. Bee is an interesting role for Weaving to take on as she has to balance the villainous side of the character with the sweet side that somewhat genuinely cares for Judah. It’s a performance that led to one reviewer dubbing Weaving the new “It girl“From the horror genre (by Shrek chief) And considering the roles she’s landed in the aftermath of The babysitterThey are right.
