Every Recruitable Character in Slitterhead, Ranked

Although it is undeniably a horror game, Slitterhead It plays much more like an action RPG, in which players live or die by the strength of their party members. There’s a good reason for all this bloodshed: Slitterhead is the work of several Team Silent alumni, including series creator Keiichiro Toyama and longtime sound designer Akira Yamaoka. Even so, Slitterhead has much more in common with Toyama’s later works, with clear tones of Siren and Gravity Race appearing in your gameplay.

To that end, most of what players will do in Slitterhead it involves jumping from body to body, possessing different people, and using their unique abilities to solve puzzles and fight grotesque enemies. When it comes to fighting, no one is better than your eight raritiesextra-special humans with strong wills who are capable of summoning bloody weapons in battle, retaining a shred of their free will even when possessed by Hyoki. As players recruit more of them, they can choose which of them appear in certain missions. See how they compare.

Betty is Slitterhead’s least useful rarity

The fairy’s friend

Betty's recruitment screen in Slitterhead.

First introduced as the Mysterious Old Lady, Betty – full name Beatrice Alice Doherty – has a familiar sense of style that harks back to Hong Kong’s colonial past. Unlike all other Rarities, it cannot be recruited by simply possessing it once; players must travel through the game, find Betty, and have cryptic conversations with her across six different levels before she becomes available.

In battle, Betty can manage on her own, but not much else. His first ability, Indomitable, simply improves his own defense. His second, Lunatic, can be used to cause a host to attack continuously. This is just a worse version of Anita’s Mind Hack, and since it constantly drains Betty’s own HP, it’s simply too risky. Other than that, she can summon some moderate area-of-effect attacks. She has a pretty interesting storyline, but doesn’t have enough time to develop it by the time she’s recruited.

Edo needs fans to follow

Taking hands

Edo, a scruffy man with long gray hair, drinking in an alley with his dog in a screenshot from Slitterhead.

For most, Edo will be the first optional rarity recruited in Slitterhead. Edo sleeps in the alleys of Kowlong, shielded from the neon lights by suffocating skyscrapers and growing piles of trash. He is recruited when the player character saves him from a monster that corners him in an alley. An alumnus of Yin Yue’s cult, he serves as the rest of the group in that part of the underworld, allowing them to investigate Yin Yue’s apparent obsession with Slitterheads.

Edo primarily uses his fists in battle, which means that it has an incredibly short range. He can deal quite a bit of damage when he gets close, but his attacks are also slow, meaning the player must pay extra attention. SlitterheadThe already tight combat timing. He can use a self-deflection ability as well as Burning Edge to improve his attacks, but this comes at the unfortunate cost of Blood Weapon durability. His Angel Step ability is basically just an improved dodge that can be chained into a weapon attack, which isn’t very useful either.

But Tri too

With some additional skills

Tri, a woman wearing a bright orange hijab, looks around a coffee shop in a screenshot from Slitterhead.

Also recruited during Night Owl’s investigation of the cult, Tri is a housekeeper with a skill set quite similar to Edo’s. She also uses hand-to-hand combat, wielding blood weapons that resemble the oven mitts she uses on a daily basis. day. She is subject to the same short attack range and slightly higher attack speed, but can enhance her attacks with Bloody Knuckles, an ability that increases her melee attack damage and can cause enemies to bleed.

What Tri has over Edo, however, is a pretty solid arsenal of other skills. Your Sentry Thorns summon a turret that draws the enemy’s attention – useful for gaining an advantage when there aren’t many other possession targets nearby. His ultimate ability, Crimson Chains, attaches to an enemy and drains their HP while also slowing their movement for the duration. She’s far from the best playable character in Slitterheadbut she is not bad by any means.

Doni is fine

Great for chase sequences

Doni, a teenager with round glasses, holds out his hand in a combat pose at Slitterhead. His eyes glow red and he is surrounded by yellow flame.

Next up is Doni, a student who accidentally becomes involved in Slitterhead’s conspiracy. Young and optimistic, Doni has a clear vision of the future he wants to live in and hopes to study computer science to achieve it. He interrogates Night Owl’s intentions, needing to know if his allies are in the right place. Wielding a spear modeled after a mechanical pencil, Doni’s main ability is Fatal Lance, a ranged attack that has the longest range of any skill in Slitterhead. This makes it great for chase sequences.

Doni’s other abilities include Curse Resist, which nullifies any negative effects on the user. This is useful during late-game fights, where debuffs are often a major factor. Revenge Guard allows him to store incoming damage and release it as a shockwave. Overall, with long range and a fast attack pattern, Doni isn’t bad, but there are better characters out there.

4

Anita does one thing well

Hypnosis = Healing

Although initially teased as a Slitterhead, In fact, Anita later becomes a player character and is very useful for this.. She is part of a criminal gang that Slitterheads secretly controls and helps the rest of the crew get into their headquarters. Anita uses a staff in battle, which gives her fantastic range and speed. His main pair of skills are Devil’s Scent and Mind Hack; the former summons up to five new civilians to the battlefield, and the latter has them attack any and all nearby enemies.

In Slitterhead, possessing new bodies is basically equivalent to healingas the player’s total health pool is represented by the HP of all possession targets combined. Switching bodies and drawing aggression can give a Rarity the opportunity to use more traditional healing methods, or later allow her to automatically regenerate HP with the Auto-Heal ability. Thus, Anita’s role is to effectively create distractions that allow her allies to rest and recover, making her an important ally in certain battles.

3

Alex is risky but rewarding

Contract blood debts

Slitterhead doctor and hunter even before Night Owl appears, Alex roams the streets of Kowlong on his motorcycle, eliminating as many mutant monsters as possible with the help of his trusty shotgun. He sees the powers Night Owl possesses as a means to an end and uses them liberally, transforming his scalpel into a Blood Weapon that combines speed with strength. His main ability allows him to infuse his shotgun with supernatural power, firing a charged Bloody Blast at a wide range.

Alex can also use Blood Well to draw a large group of enemies in, lining up the perfect shot. His ultimate ability, Time Bomb, causes the target currently in possession to become… well, a time bomb, ready to explode after five seconds and deal damage to anything in range. The only question is that Each of Alex’s abilities incurs a very high blood cost, meaning his HP can run out quickly if the player is not careful.. It’s best to pair him with a healer like Anita or Julee to make the most of his explosive abilities.

2

Julee is versatile

Nailed it

The star of much SlitterheadIn marketing, Julee is an aspiring actress who works at a grocery store, definitely inspired in part by the character Faye from Chungking Express. Julee is the first rarity that Night Owl hashis Blood Weapon manifesting as an extension of his red-painted fingernails. This gives him great range and speed; she leaps into battle, slashing at enemies with a flurry of claws. Skill-wise, she has it all, starting with a powerful charge attack called Sonic Claws.

Julee also has a great ability for chase sequences called Blood Ripper, which simply fires a series of knives at her target. She is also the only character who has a pure healing ability.called Revive All, which heals her and revives anyone nearby who needs it. This makes her an excellent companion for more damage-focused characters, but she can also turn around when she needs to.

1

Blake is the best rarity in Slitterhead

Raw Power

Blake, a blond man in a vest and tie, is in his office in a screenshot from Slitterhead.

By simple attack power, Blake tops the list as the best Rarity in Slitterhead. A Kowlong police officer, Blake is on a mission to eliminate the Slitterhead threat to better protect his people. His blood gun resembles the marlin spike he received during his service in the navy. It’s good in and of itself, but more importantly, Blake’s abilities allow him to summon a small arsenal of guns and explosive weapons. Bloody Gamble summons a revolver, which he can use to make continuous ranged attacks; however, each one runs a (minuscule) risk of blowing up in the face.

Blake can also create landmines with Bloody Mine, which will explode when enemies wander nearby. He is also the only Rarity that can possess SPEU officers, increasing the overall possession targets available in some battles. Blake’s most important ability, however, is Bloody Shot. This summons a minigun that fires a rapid burst of bullets at enemies, dealing tons of damage over time. He consistently drains his blood meter, but when paired with a decent healer like Julee, he’ll be fine.

Choosing the best character is only half the battle. Certain missions require players to use specific Rarities as their main characters, but generally they can bring along the companion of their choice. Therefore, it is important to test all your skills and understand how they work together to build the perfect party in Slitterhead.
