Crossplay between PlayStation 5 and the PC gaming client Steam It’s a fantastic feature when available, allowing players to connect across spaces and consoles. The development of modern online features has made it much easier to play video games with friends (and strangers) over time, but multiplayer still faces frequent limitations. Many PS5 games only let you play online with other PS5 gamesand the same applies to other consoles.
Happily, cross-play has become increasingly common in many PS5 and Steam games, and the process of connecting with other players is usually not difficult. From competitive FPS games to the best cooperative adventures, there’s no shortage of good options out there. Unfortunately, there is no way to filter games by crossplay support on Steam or PS5, making it difficult to find titles that can be played between players on PS5 and PC.

This list is updated frequently as more games add support for cross-play. As new titles appear on the PlayStation Store, it’s worth checking to see if they offer the feature. While there’s no way to verify this in the PS Store details, many games that feature cross-play will explicitly state it in their descriptions.
If the information is not available in the game store description, another option is check the game’s official website. Failing that, some games have dedicated Discord channels or Reddit pages where players can ask about cross-play (and any other gaming-related questions).
How to enable cross-play between Steam and PS5
Crossplay should be allowed on PS5
Cross-play is enabled by default on Steam, so there’s no need to enable any special settings on the platform. However, while inviting someone to play on PS5 typically involves adding them as a friend, it’s not possible to add a Steam user as a PS5 friend. Starting a PS5 Crossplay with a Steam User requires enabling cross-play on console.
To enable cross-play, the player needs to navigate to Profile Settings and then Privacy Settings. Scrolling to the bottom displays the “Get cross-game invites” option, which should be set to “Allow.” Steven Lim There’s a helpful video on YouTube that’s short and sweet and shows you exactly how to do these steps. Keeping this option disabled will prevent players from connecting between their PS5 and PC. This will also prevent PS5 players from being matched with PC players in multiplayer experiences like matches. Enabling the feature will open players up to non-PS5 companions, including receiving and sending invitations to play in the game.
How to invite a friend to a Crossplay PS5 and Steam game
This is normally achieved within the game
Inviting a specific friend to play between PS5 and PC is almost always done within the game itself. Most crossplay games like Helldivers 2 and Call to action, has a way to add friends to the game’s friends lists. If the game doesn’t have friends lists, it will typically use a special code, which can be shared between players trying to connect.
There is another way to invite a specific person to a game: using the Xbox app. This may seem completely counterintuitive, but it is specifically the case for Sea of Thieves. While the game was originally an Xbox and Microsoft Store exclusive, it was released on Steam in 2020 and on PS5 in 2024. To invite a PC player to a PS5 session and vice versa, players must first connect to the Xbox app. Chad Reddings on YouTube shows how to do this in a short and simple video.
Ultimately, cross-play makes the gap between platforms narrower than ever, providing a simple way to access an entire world of other players in any online game that supports it. Considering the continued growth of the PC market, cross-play can make any online PS5 game better, and there’s a lot of value in playing with friends who don’t have PS5s. Although the feature is not universal, PlayStation 5 owners can link themselves to Steam users for a seamless cross-play experience across a wide selection of games that only continues to grow.
