After ten years, the Destination the franchise had 12 DLCs to complete its two installments, and all of them now enter a ranking. Destination has been a generational title for good and bad reasons. Bungie originally released this sci-fi shooter to mixed reviews after a difficult development process. Since then, with a slightly better sequel and DLCs that are hit or miss, the game ends its first saga as a popular title that probably failed to reach its peak.
With the Light and Dark saga coming to an end, Bungie recently gave fans their first look Destiny 2road map. This includes two annual expansions expected to be the size of Rise of Iron of Destination. Each of these expansions will have two major free updates and are rumored to be similar in size to the To the light update from before The final form.

The Curse of Osiris Was So Bad It’s Forgettable
December 2017
Curse of Osiris was the first DLC of Destiny 2 and it was an unquestionable failure. The plot focused on the Vex trying to alter the past and bringing the legendary Warlock Osiris to the franchise. However, that’s the only good part of this DLC. The story was short and seemed less important than the scale of the threat might have considered.
This DLC brought with it a new planet, two raids and three crucible maps, but only the latter ended up being worth it. Another key part of this expansion was the Infinite Forest, a generated series of encounters that ended up being basic and little used in pre-sunset events. To make matters worse, players were introduced to the first Raid Lair as a replacement for a full-scale Raid. However, Eater of Worlds ended up being the least popular “Raid” ever released.

Warmind was a small improvement over its predecessor
May 2018
Warmind I learned from the failures of Curse of Osiris but still failed to be a memorable expansion. The story, although more interesting, was also shorter and culminated in the death of an important Hive god in an attack. Even though Xol was trapped in the excellent Whisper of the Worm Exotic quest, it still felt lackluster.
Although it was small, Warmind managed to add some quality content to the game. The Escalation Protocol event on Mars was chaotic and fun and the closest thing Destiny 2 vi for a horde mode. The Spire of Stars Raid Lair was also added during this DLC and was a huge step up from Eater of Worlds. Overall, Warmind felt more like a stopgap than a major event in itself.

It’s safe to say Lightfall was filled in a hurry
February 2023
Of the franchise’s biggest expansions, Light outage stands out for how poor it was. The Guardians gathered on Neomuna to stop Calus from handing over the Veil to the Witness. Although the final ending of the Witness’ victory in that battle was good, everything else was bad. A story that felt like a training arc after unlocking Strand, a subclass that also felt out of place in the story, along with new characters that felt unoriginal and unnecessary.
Neomuna itself is a great location, vibrant and unique, but ultimately uneventful after a few weeks. The Shadow Legion was a good Cabal update, but ultimately not the huge update it probably should have been. Even worsethe Root of Nightmares attack that brought back one of the most notorious Destination villains turned out to be a ridiculous task. At the end, Light outage is doomed to be remembered as filler DLC.

Shadowkeep started a new cycle
October 2019
Shadowkeep it was a DLC with a lot of enthusiasm both in its showcases and in the following ones Abandoned. However, the return to the Moon ended up looking like a tiny step towards Destinationthe bigger story. The return of past enemies didn’t live up to their potential, and another tale did little to help the Moon’s beautiful design updates.
Shadowkeep added the second dungeon to Destiny 2Pit of Heresy, but it was a forgettable experience that posed few challenges even for solo players. The attack on the Garden of Salvation was a general victory for expansionbut ultimately failed to reinforce the reception. That’s why, Shadowkeep it has become a clear sign for fans to always be wary of this franchise’s hype.

The darkness below grew old, but it was perfect for its time
December 2014
The darkness below was the first DLC to be released for the franchise, and although this is nothing compared to what fans expect these days, it was great at the time. A compact but engaging story, which brought the biggest threat of the time, mixed with the second attack to be launched. Crota’s End, in both versions, is a charming but simple attack with little reason to repeat outside of the desire for loot.
Dark Below added two fun new attacks, although one has been a PlayStation exclusive for most of its existence. It can also be praised for the introduction of Eris Mornone of the most popular NPCs added to the franchise. Overall, while The darkness below is a nostalgic expansion for many, it is ultimately inferior to what has become standard.

House Of Wolves set the perfect standard
May 2015
House of Wolves is undoubtedly the most memorable of Destination DLCs. This gave more life to the Awakened and Fallen in a slightly longer story that had weight in the future. However, the Prison of Elders was by far the best addition. This arena PvE experience was immensely replayable and was the most challenging part of the game at the time.
Along with a new raid, four new Crucible maps have been added. These maps were complemented by the release of Trials of Osiris. This endgame PvP mode was a breath of fresh air for the game and while it didn’t translate as well in the sequel, it remained strong in the franchise.

Beyond the light was a complicated step
November 2020
Beyond the Light This is where the Light and Darkness Saga first seemed to be growing. After the Pyramid Fleet arrived and absorbed more than half Destiny 2In the locations of, the Guardians were called to the icy hellscape of Europa. There they would discover a Fallen House worshiping the Dark, the forgotten technology of humanity’s Golden Age, and the first Dark underclass. Stasis, although overpowered early on, settled into a perfect position with the best Stasis builds and proved to be a good addition.
Beyond the LightThe story was good, but it had a pacing problem. The extra PvE content in the revamped Strikes, Empire Hunts, and Lost Sectors was intriguing, but never stuck around as much as Bungie probably would have liked. The greatest achievement of Beyond the Lightin addition to Stasis, it was Deep Stone Crypt. A balanced, beautiful and fun raid this brought back a sense of loot that previous raids had failed to achieve.

Rise Of Iron Is A Forgotten Gem
September 2016
Rise of Iron it was the last DLC of the original Destinationand outside of the presence of the Iron Lords, it’s something Bungie seems to want players to forget. It was an almost perfect expansion, with the only major flaw being its lack of long-term relevance.a problem due to his history and Bungie’s reluctance to bring him back. Although never confirmed, the common theory about why nothing happened Rise of Iron already made a return is due to the work that would be required.
Rise of Iron added a whole new Cosmodrome area, a new Fallen house that played differently, and a lot of content. Four attacks have been added, three of which are reprized versions using the new Siva threat. Wraith of the Machine was the most innovative attack of the timeand it still remains a fan favorite all these years later.

Witch Queen brought back hope
February 2022
After the failure of Shadowkeep and warm reception for Beyond the Light, Witch Queen restored many fans’ hope for the franchise. A well-crafted story that advanced the overarching plot mixed with the first campaign on hard mode was praised by many. While there were no new subclasses, the introduction of the Hive Guardians added an exciting new combat mechanic.
Along with a beautiful Hive-themed world, Witch Queen It came with a lot of content. Wellspring wasn’t an old six-player mode, but it was the right thing to complement the update. Weapons manufacturing, although it became controversial, was monumental at the time and continues to be casual gamers’ best friend. Lastly, Vow of the Disciple is possibly the best raid Bungie has ever created.
3
Abandoned Saved Destiny 2
September 2018
After the vanilla fights Destiny 2 and the worst DLCs in the franchise, Abandoned gave Bungie support to continue. A thrilling and mysterious story centered on Uldren took Guardians to the Dreaming City. This location was the first for Destinationa complex ecosystem that changed weekly and was full of mysteries.
Abandoned has been loaded with content from new supers, raids, maps, a new Raid and the first Dungeon. Last Wish is still the most complicated raid Bungie has ever made and is well known for its notorious day one experience. If Abandoned it had a downside: the Contempt barons who were killed in small missions seemed like a huge waste of potential.
2
Taken King was the first sign of what destiny could be
September 2015
The Possessed King it’s the biggest DLC Bungie has ever made, and it showed. The story was fun, well-paced, and full of side quests. The Dreadnought remains a fan-favorite location, and the Taken were the first new enemy race to be added to the franchise. Outside of history, Taken King delivered massive amounts of content for PvP and PvE, while also adding the missing subclass to each class.
However The Possessed King has aged considerably, the impact it left lasts. Since the Raid, content and memories, this expansion has left its mark on the franchise. Unfortunately, no expansion since then has delivered the amount of content Taken King they did, but everyone was influenced by it.

The final form was an almost perfect ending
June 2024
The culmination of ten years of work, The final form It was a great ending to the Light and Dark saga. A beautifully crafted and moving story that saw the return of Cayde-6. The final battle against The Witness in a 12-player mission tied to completion on the first day of one of the Destiny 2the best attacks. All complemented by a vibrant new location full of loot, a new enemy race that brings new challenges, and the powerful Prismatic subclass.
The only issue of note might be the lack of connection to The Witness, which is an issue that can be attributed more to a lack of adequate exposition in the main story. As critically positive as The final form was, unfortunately, not sold well, which could have partially led to further content changes. Regardless of sales, is the best Destination experience to dateand will be a difficult barrier for future expansions to overcome.
Destiny 2 seems to be the way Bungie wants to progress, although there are some benefits to moving to Destiny 3. How the Destination As the franchise continues, it’s crucial that it learns from the success and failures of these 12 DLCs. Although all these Destination expansions have found their place among themselves, they are still the accumulation of almost endless hard work that contributed to this beloved sci-fi franchise.
