Notice! This article contains spoilers for Netflix’s Time Cut.
Netflix’s time-travel wrecker, Time cutcan get confusing quickly, especially considering that some of its characters’ deaths happen not once, but twice. Set in the fictional town of Sweetly, the film revolves around Sweetly Slasher, who killed four teenagers in 2003, including the sweet and popular Summer (Antonia Gentry). Lucy (Madison Bailey) — a teenager from 2024 and Summer’s younger sister — decides to stop them before they happen. Time cutmain the character quickly encounters a series of paradoxes that surpass her knowledge and threaten the limits of her existence.
While the end of Time cut offers some clarity on what happened and when, many things that are initially established as canon end up changing or never occurring. School Spirits director, Hannah Macpherson, craft a thrilling and tension-filled murder puzzle whose fragmented and changing nature does not guarantee a defined course of events. Time cutThe three timelines blend together, demonstrating that the smallest change can break or remake the truth. Meanwhile, Sweetly Slasher is determined to write his own version, where no survivor will get a second chance.

Brian
Second timeline
Brian is part of Summer’s group of friends, which includes Ethan, Emmy, Val, Brian, and Summer. They are the popular teens at Sweetly High School and, with the exception of Ethan, are targeted by the Sweetly Slasher in Time cutsecond timeline. He killed Brian on April 16th when he was shopping at the mall with Val for the Spring Fling.
Brian marked the killer’s first murder, with his girlfriend being the second. Old Quinn killed him because he and Ethan threw him into the river in the first timeline, making the whole gang laugh at Young Quinn’s desperate attempts not to drown. Although Brian seems like a good friend to Summer, he was introduced as Quinn’s main bully and the one who incited the river prank – telling Ethan to take his frustration out on “that nerd Quinn”When Summer avoided talking to him.

Val
Second timeline
Not much is revealed about why the Sweetly Slasher targeted Val. Although she is part of Summer’s group of friends, Val is not the only one at school who laughs when Ethan and Brian try to throw Quinn into the river, making it strange that he would want to kill her. it specifically. The most likely reason for her murder is that she is Brian’s girlfriend, and Quinn’s blind rage caused him to lash out at his entire group of friends.holding them all responsible for tolerating bullying.
Val’s murder as it happened in the second timeline is not shown on screen but only alluded to. The final timeline provided an idea of what the original murder was like before Lucy changed it. After trying on some clothes at Wetslide, Val came out of the dressing room and found Brian dead on the floor. She hid from the Sweetly Slasher, but he finally cornered her on a shelf – where he probably killed her with a knife.

Emmy
Second timeline
Emmy was killed on April 17 while working at the Sweetly Marine Museum. The original scene of his death isn’t shown, but the final timeline sets everything up. The Sweetly Slasher approached her as she wore headphones and cleaned the boat. When Summer warned her and Emmy tried to flee, she struggled with the door – suggesting the killer cornered her and stabbed her there.
In the final timeline, Summer opens the door from the outside, saving Emmy with the help of Lucy and Quinn. The elder Quinn’s motives for killing Emmy are not explicitly revealed. However, she was part of Summer’s group of friends and laughed at the river prank – although, admittedly, she called it a stupid senior tradition. It’s more likely that, in hindsight, Old Man Quinn realized that Emmy and Summer were loverswhereas young Quinn notices the pair’s intimate relationship. Even though it’s not confirmed that Summer came out in the first timeline, it’s possible since Emmy made it so young.

Summer
Second timeline
After killing Brian, Val and Emmy, the Sweetly Slasher killed Summer on April 18th at the Spring Fling party at Hayshed. He attacked her when she was putting on lipstick in the bathroom and then chased her through some abandoned warehouses as she struggled to find her way back to the party. He used a scythe to stab her on her back as she tried to run.
In the final timeline, Summer attempts to recreate her murder to ensure Lucy’s birth. However, her sister and Quinn ran over the attacker, revealing it to be the oldest Quinn from the first timeline – who was actually thrown into the river when she was young. After, he explained that he wanted to kill Summer because she laughed while he screamed for help in the water and because she said she could never love him.

Brian
Final Schedule
Brian’s death was the only death that did not change in the final timelineas Lucy did not arrive in time to prevent his murder. Even though she stopped him from throwing Quinn into the river, Brian was killed because the Sweetly Slasher comes from the first timeline where the incident happened. The character is punished for something a different version of him did, adding Time cut’It is the complex exploration of the chain of cascading effects of a decision.
Unlike Val’s unseen murder in the second timeline, Time cut in fact showed the death of her boyfriend. As Brian waited for Val to come out of the dressing room, the lights on the Wetslide went out, causing him to accidentally drop some things on the floor. As he bent to pick them up, the Sweetly Slasher stood over him and stabbed him in the neck with a broken CD.

Val
Final Schedule
When Lucy traveled to the past, Val acted as a supportive friend to Summer, and considered by Gentry’s character “the sweetest person”- however, she has no chance to prove this. Lucy can’t stop Val from being killed on April 16, but she changes the way it happens. She distracts the Sweetly Slasher in Wetslide and allows Val to escape from the store where she was supposed to be killed.
Trying to get help, the pair climb the electric stairs and discover that the killer is downstairs waiting for them. Lucy climbs back up, but Val trips and hits her head. Old Quinn kills Val at the bottom of the stairs banging your head against them. Val’s final death in the timeline produces Ethan’s Spring Fling eulogy-like speech, which originally also included Emmy.

Mall security guard
Final Schedule
The change in Val’s death signals the beginning of a series of time travel tragedies caused by Lucy in Time cut. In the second timeline, the Sweetly Slasher killed two people on the night of April 16, but in the final timeline, he killed three. As Madison Bailey’s character screams for help, she has the mall security guard try to save Val. Not only does he get to her too late, but he is stabbed by Old Quinn.
Time cut suggests that Lucy is actively changing the past – creating a fascinating suspense about who will die next and whether it will be someone completely unexpected.
The death of the security guard served to raising the stakes for Lucy’s intervention in the past – since he shouldn’t die. From then on, she worried about the effect each of her choices would have on the future, which helped her realize that if she saved Summer, she wouldn’t be born.
