Evangelion Just Released a New Video for Their Collaboration with McDonald's, and It's the Wildest Thing of 2024

Despite officially ending in 2021 with the fourth and final film of Evangelion Reconstruction series, Hideaki Anno's iconic franchise is still a hit among the passionate anime community. After announcing a completely unexpected collaboration with McDonald's earlier this month, Evangelion decided to take full advantage of the madness of this partnership, releasing a promotional video that will leave fans speechless.

If seeing a “Mac Eva” was on your 2024 bingo list, congratulations, because you just won. Promoting the upcoming release of three Eva-themed burgers at Japanese McDonald's, this video takes iconic scenes from the original anime and adds a special new flavor to them.

A Wild Promo Video Makes This Unlikely Collaboration Even Crazier

Known for its deep philosophical themes, cryptic references to religion and mysticism, and thoughtful debate on existentialism and human relationships, EvangelionThe least expected pairing was with the largest fast food chain in the world. Starting with special McDonald's toys based on the mechs series, given to guests who win the Christmas lottery, this collaboration has just intensified. McDonald's Japan announced three Evangelion- themed burgers launching on January 6th. The way they chose to promote this, however, may confuse fans of the series.

In a 30-second video, Shinji, Rei, and Asuka have to fight new enemies that undermine humanity's survival: a "Mac Eva" and, in what is perhaps the wildest anime tableau of 2024, an angel-shaped burger floating in the air. The use of original anime footage (heavily edited) and voice actors makes the video even crazier, especially when the tragic Eva pilots are seen smiling while holding McDonald's food, delivered straight to their Entry Plugs. However, anime fans must have already learned that anything is possible, and that Evangelion-McDonald's Collaboration I just went the extra mile to prove it.
