Nearly a decade after its original release on Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles is getting an enhanced re-release on Nintendo Switch in 2025. Released in 2015, Xenoblade Chronicles was the second game to be released on Xenoblade Chronicles series – however, despite being one of the first entries in the series, XCX has no direct connection to any of the other games, with its futuristic setting and open-world structure marking it as something more akin to a spinoff or side game when compared to the three “main” entries.
As announced by Nintendo on X, the game will receive an enhanced port for the Nintendo Switch, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Editionscheduled for release on March 20, 2025. Notably, this marks XCX like the last one Xenoblade Chronicles The game will be coming to Switch, which means that after its release, the entire series will be playable on the console. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will also include some new features, similar to Definitive Edition from the original Xenoblade Chronicles.

The version of Xenoblade Chronicles scheduled for release in 2025 will be very similar to the 2015 original, with The most notable new features are graphical improvements and new story segments. While not much is known about the additions to the story beyond a brief teaser at the end of the reveal trailer, it’s likely that the new story will be similar to the Connected Future epilogue that was added to Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition on the switch.
Notably, however, March 2025 also marks the end of Nintendo’s fiscal year, and as a result, it’s the last month that Switch users can expect the announcement of the company’s next console. That could do Xenoblade Chronicles one of the last major releases for the Switch, in addition to its status as one of the last major Wii U titles to receive a re-release on the console.
